It's not often we get a CryEngine graphical powerhouse come our way but Kingdom Come: Deliverance delivers in spades. This is a gorgeous open-world RPG that is the visual equal of just about any other. Be warned though, it's not exactly a game that's easy to run. There's a fairly average level of customisation options to be found in KC: Deliverance. While a number of the core bases are covered, key settings like Depth of Field, Motion Blur quality, and HDR are all bundled into Postprocess Quality, while there's also a complete lack of anti-aliasing options in Kingdom Come Deliverance.
The options we do have in Kingdom Come: Deliverance are usually effective though, and it contributes to a fantastic looking game. Kingdom Come Deliverance Low vs Ultra Graphics Comparison

There's clearly a substantial difference in visual quality between Kingdom Come: Deliverance's Low and Ultra graphics settings, although it only truly becomes apparent when we examine the finer details or get up close and personal with the environments.
The first pair of screenshots is perhaps the most indicative of the moment to moment graphics in Kingdom Come: Deliverance. While Low is noticeably worse than Ultra, I think it still stands up as a decent looking game if you're playing on weaker hardware. A little bit of the environmental detail is lost but Kingdom Come Deliverance still looks better than the majority of open-world RPGs out there, even when played at lower graphics settings.
Where we really begin to see the Ultra visuals pull ahead is when we narrow in on the smaller details, such as the grass being rendered in the third pair of comparison images. Of course, it's not even really a 'small detail' when the vast majority of Kingdom Come Deliverance's picturesque landscape if full of grass. On Low, we're in full-on Minecraft territory, while each blade is distinct on Ultra. Fortunately, providing you don't crouch everywhere you go, you won't have to deal with this too much.

Kingdom Come Deliverance benchmarks and frames per second analysis performed on GeForce GTX 1060 6GB | Intel i7-5820K | 16GB DDR4
For this Kingdom Come: Deliverance benchmark, we used a GeForce GTX 1060 equipped with 6GB video memory. This is the same as the GPU in the recommended system requirements for Kingdom Come Deliverance. It’s backed up by 16GB DDR4 memory and an Intel Core i7-5820K CPU.
Our Kingdom Come Deliverance benchmarks were performed at a spot about three hours into the game, once the proper open-world element is unlocked.

While the current sky-high prices could have you thinking otherwise, the GeForce GTX 1060 6GB is Nvidia's standout mid-range GPU this generation. For those sticking to 1080p resolution, the GTX 1060 achieves solid performance in Kingdom Come: Deliverance. For the most part, anyway, but more on that later.
It is theoretically possible to squeeze out a playable 1440p frame rate with the 1060, although FPS fluctuations mean it doesn't come recommended. Instead, it's best to aim for 1080p/Very High. It needs you an additional 12 frames per second compared to Ultra High, and the visual difference is nearly impossible to discern.
At home, I've also been attempting to run Kingdom Come Deliverance with a GeForce GTX 970, Intel Core i5-4670K and 8GB DDR3 RAM. The results really aren't very good, coming in at roughly half the frame rate of the GTX 1060. Even dropping down to Low/720p doesn't allow me to hit a steady frame rate in towns. Considering the two GPUs are meant to have comparable performance, I'm still trying to get to the bottom of this. A 32GB download stalled my progress for now, but I can at least confirm it's not a lack of VRAM or RAM, neither of which are maxed out.

The GeForce GTX 1070 is a 1440p screen resolution specialist, but it meets its match with Kingdom Come: Deliverance. As far as game engines go, CryEngine is one of the more demanding, with the GTX 1070 8GB forced to drop as low as 1440p/Medium in order to achieve 60 frames per second. Fortunately, the frame rates hold steady at 1440p so it's still a playable experience at Ultra. A combination of High and Very High is recommended as the best balance for the GTX 1070 when running KC: Deliverance.
How Kingdom Come: Deliverance's Performance Can Vary Hugely Between Day and Night
While the benchmarks above were taken from a typical gameplay session, Kingdom Come Deliverance's performance can also vary dramatically depending on where you are, what time of day it is, and the weather conditions. There's one moment in particular, an hour or two into the game, that proves incredibly taxing. It takes place at night, so visibility is low, but performance seems to be affected by the real-time lighting from the lit torches in a castle. Combine this with quite a few characters on-screen and thunder & lightning, and Kingdom Come: Deliverance can quickly bring your GPU to a halt.
The difference in performance between this and the earlier benchmarks is quite marked. Ordinarily, the GeForce GTX 1060 6GB can hold a very playable frame rate at 1080p/Ultra in Kingdom Come Deliverance. Here though, we see the average frame rate dip from 47 all the way down to 29, with dips into the teens. It's not quite unplayable, but it's mighty close.
Fortunately, instances where frame rate tanks like this are few and far between, but it does happen. You've therefore got to lower your graphics settings permanently in order to guarantee solid FPS in KC:D; adjust the visual options when you get to a demanding point in the story, or just soldier through with a low frame rate.
How Well Optimised is Kingdom Come: Deliverance

The first results are a CPU performance readout for the Intel Core i7-5820K 6-Core running Kingdom Come: Deliverance at 720p / Low graphics. This offloads as much of the grunt work to the CPU as possible, and the uncapped framerate sends Kingdom Come's FPS up to around 160 frames per second. You can see that the i7-5820K isn't overly taxed, hitting a peak load of 50% but more usually around 40%. CPU performance is front-loaded, so the first two cores are doing the lion's share of the work while the remaining four cores are sipping a Pina Colada in the Bohemian sunshine.
In the second results, we get a picture of how well the GeForce GTX 1060 60GB is utilized when running Kingdom Come Deliverance at 1080p/Ultra. The GTX 1060 averages 47 frames per second at this setting, and you can see it's running at full capacity. While not shown, the CPU is at around 30% load. In short, your graphics card is likely to be the source of any bottlenecks in terms of Kingdom Come's PC performance.
One final thing to point out is the frame buffer usage peaking at 40%. Kingdom Come Deliverance isn't hugely VRAM hungry, so a 3GB GDDR5 graphics card will be enough to to run 1080p without a problem.
