Microsoft has announced that its co-op open-world action game from Undead Labs, State of Decay 2, will be launching on May 22nd. Best of all though, it'll be launching at a budget-price of $29.99, which is either a hint at its production values or signaling Microsoft's intent to drag people kicking and screaming into the Windows Store. For those after some co-op hijinks it's looking very impressive indeed, but what about those all-important system specs? Here are the system requirements for State of Decay 2 on PC.

State of Decay 2 Minimum System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-2500 2.7GHz or AMD FX-6300 3.5 GHz
  • RAM: 8 GB System Memory
  • GPU RAM: 2 GB Video Memory
  • GPU: GeForce GTX 760 or Radeon HD 7870
  • HDD: 16GB Available Hard Drive Space
  • API: DirectX 11

State of Decay 2 Recommended System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-4570 3.2 GHz or AMD FX-8350 4.0 GHz
  • RAM: 16 GB System Memory
  • GPU RAM: 4 GB Video Memory
  • GPU: GeForce GTX 960 or Radeon R9 380
  • HDD: 16 GB Available Hard Drive Space
  • API: DirectX 11

Compared to a lot Microsoft's first-party output, State of Decay 2 is very lightweight indeed. The screenshots let us know it's not a graphical powerhouse, but SoD2 still looks very decent. What it does ensure is that State of Decay 2 will run on a wide variety of gaming systems.

I'll start with the recommended requirements because I think the vast majority picking up this game are going to be aiming for this level. A 4GB GeForce GTX 960 or Radeon R9 380 is all that's required to max out State of Decay 2's graphics at 1080p screen resolution, which is very reasonable indeed. I suspect the 4GB VRAM requirement may catch a few people out, but plenty of low-end modern GPUs now come with 4GB variants. Alongside this, you'll need a middle-of-the-range, quad-core processor. From the looks of minimum specs, anything dual-core and you could be running into trouble.

Aside from all this, the 16GB recommended RAM requirement for State of Decay 2 sticks out like a sore thumb. I'd be willing to bet that it uses nowhere near 16GB unless Undead Labs has run into serious problems.

The minimum specs for State of Decay 2 aren't much lower than the recommended, but these older CPUs and GPUs will do the job when playing at lower resolutions. As we saw with Sea of Thieves though, I suspect you'll be able to get away with far less if you're willing to drop the resolution and graphics settings considerably.

One last thing to point out - as an Xbox Play Anywhere game, State of Decay 2 is exclusive to the Windows 10 Store. That means only those with Windows 10 will be able to play it, and of course, it'll be a UWP app.

As ever, remember you can always check out how well your PC can run the State of Decay 2 System Requirements here, where you can check benchmarking and performance from other users. It looks like they wan't to bring more people to Windows Store, and this game at this price is a steal.
I'd honestly be very surprised if I see it anywhere else.
Also what's with 16GB of required RAM? That doesn't seem normal. Not even the latest most superior games require that much RAM, especially for those requirements.

Please release on Steam, I really don't want to touch the Windows 10 store.

$30 Price sounds really fair for a game like this. I had a lot of fun with State of Decay: YOSE hope the co-op will be good in State of Decay 2
