Bethesda Game Studios is expanding, Zenimax has announced. The Skyrim and Fallout 4 developer has now opened up a new Bethesda Game Studios Austin office formed from the ill-fated BattleCry Studios. BattleCry worked on, well, BattleCry, until it was canceled way back in 2015. Since then they’ve been helping out with DOOM multiplayer content and, presumably, whatever Bethesda is cooking up next.

“As the vision, scale and ambitions for our games continue to grow, so does Bethesda Game Studios,” said Todd Howard, game director and executive producer at Bethesda Game Studios. “We’ve had the pleasure to know the talented developers at BattleCry, and knew we could do great things together.”

“We’re excited to join Bethesda Game Studios and look forward to working together on some of the industry’s most exciting new games,” said Doug Mellencamp, the new Austin studio director. “Austin’s incredible game development scene and talent will also allow us to push our games further than fans have imagined."

Mellencamp’s LinkedIn profile tells us that he’s been working for over a year on an unannounced title, so this studio is already deep into the development of something. The addition of Austin now brings Bethesda up to three studios in total, alongside Maryland and Montreal.

A huge developer like Bethesda scaling up is always exciting. It suggests that the studio is preparing to push the boundaries with whatever it’s cooking up next, whether that’s The Elder Scrolls VI,  Fallout 5, Starfield, or something else entirely.

I'm personally tired of developers retexturing games and calling them remasters...

It's a Bethesda meme. Since the past several years Bethesda has released Skyrim in different forms. Thus, the meme of everything Bethesda do is now Skyrim only.

Bethesda is one of the few studios that I still have faith in. I'm glad to see them expanding!
