Sometimes news along and it’s just glorious. The next outing of Dragon Quest, the series that’s secretly a whole lot better than Final Fantasy these days, will be launching on PC and PlayStation 4 come September 4th. Dragon Quest XI is now known as Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age and, I believe, it's the first mainline Dragon Quest title to make it to PC.

The epic JRPG clocks in at over 100 hours and is receiving a slew of updates for its Western release. A full English dub is inbound, hopefully with an option for the original Japanese voiceovers, as well as reworked menus and UI, a new Camera mode for snapping pictures, a dash function for character movement, and Draconian Quest, a new hard mode that offers some extra challenges for more experienced players.

“Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age tells a captivating tale of a hunted hero and is the long-awaited role-playing game from series creator Yuji Horii, character designer Akira Toriyama, and series composer Koichi Sugiyama,” says publisher Square Enix. “As the eleventh mainline entry in the critically acclaimed series, DQXI is a completely standalone experience that features entirely new characters, a beautifully detailed world, finely tuned turn-based combat, and an immersive story that will appeal to longtime fans and franchise newcomers alike.”

Dragon Quest XI has been out in Japan for a little while now and been racking up rave reviews, including a perfect 40/40 from Famitsu. There’s no system requirements for Dragon Quest XI to report on just yet, but we’ll bring you news just as soon as we heard. DQ11 is built in Unreal Engine 4 and has fairly simplistic, cel-shaded visuals however, so we’re hopeful it won’t be too taxing.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age comes to PC and PlayStation 4 on September 4th. A Nintendo Switch version has been pushed back until 2019.

What bothers me is that we're not getting the 3DS version which is the one I was looking forward to the most since I prefer the 2D aesthetic over 3D

That looks like a lot of fun. I always wanted to play a Dragon Quest game.
