Lawbreakers was sadly one of the lowest profile failures of 2017. It was a decent game that arrived with all the impact of a gone off banana thrown with a broken wrist. After several attempts to get its heart pumping again, development was canceled last week. And here we are, four days later, and develop Boss Key Studios has announced its new project - Radical Heights. It's a free-to-play 80's game show-themed battle royale shooter, seemingly laser targeted at today's hottest gaming trends. Too little too late? We'll have to find out.
For now though, here's the first trailer for Radical Heights which launches in Steam Early Access TOMORROW, along with some fairly demanding system requirements.
Radical Heights Minimum System Requirements
- OS: Windows 7 64-bit
- CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K 3.3GHz or AMD FX-6300 3.5 GHz
- RAM: 8 GB System Memory
- GPU RAM: 2 GB Video Memory
- GPU: GeForce GTX 660 or Radeon HD 7870
- HDD: 6GB Available Hard Drive Space
- API: DirectX 11
Radical Heights Recommended System Requirements
- OS: Windows 10 64-bit
- CPU: Intel Core i5-6600K 3.5 GHz or AMD Ryzen 5 1600 3.2 GHz
- RAM: 16 GB System Memory
- GPU RAM: 3 GB Video Memory
- GPU: GeForce GTX 1060 3GB or Radeon RX 580 4GB
- HDD: 6GB Available Hard Drive Space
- API: DirectX 11
Now, regardless of what you make if Boss Key's about-turn, these system requirements for Radical Heights don't make for pleasant reading, particularly when taking into account from the evidently fairly simplistic visuals. Radical Heights borrows a lot of inspiration from Fortnite, a game which runs on mobile phones.
Instead, to meet the High-Quality settings in Radical Heights at 1080p/60fps, an Intel Core i5-6600K or AMD Ryzen 5 1600 processor are recommended. Both are very capable mid to high-end CPUs. These $180-230 processors will need to be paired with 16GB RAM and a mid-range graphics card such as the GTX 1060 3GB or the RX 580 4GB. For older cards, something along the lines of the GeForce GTX 770 or Radeon HD 7970 should just about cover it.
Fortunately, the minimum system requirements are significantly less demanding, but these will new you Low-Quality settings at 30 frames per second. Considering the incredibly fast turnaround of this project, I suspect it has a long way to go in terms of performance optimisation. The good news is that it's F2P, so if it doesn't run well on your system then at least it's no money lost.
As ever, remember you can always check out how well your PC can run the Radical Heights System Requirements here, where you can check benchmarking and performance from other users. Compare your graphics card to the Radical Heights GPU benchmark chart and we also have a Radical Heights Frames Per Second system performance chart for you to check.
I can't begin to tell you trepidatious I am of this project but the developers do have the pedigree so they may just pull it off.

I realize game development is a tough business but this company seems to be only chasing trends.
They have got an industry legend with them. I am sure they can come up with something special if they wanted to.

It's really strange isn't it? As an indie studio, they've got more freedom than ever to pivot to what CliffyB wants, yet they appear to be wasting it. I'll withhold judgment on this until I've played (might have a go later today), but from the trailer it definitely doesn't look great.

Instead of learning from his mistake and actually creating a different style of game Boss Key jumped on the BR trend that's already flooded with copycats.

Everyone already had the Arena shooter they love when this moron decided to create Lawbreakers, just like now everyone already has PUBG and Fortnite.

mhm.... 2018s theme... what's next - ChessMaster Battle royal edition ?

Another flop.

I like the concept since I like retro stuff but that's it. This looks pretty mediocre. The system requirements seems ridiculous as well if they are expecting more people to try it out. Fortnite can run on integrated graphics and also a phone.

Feeling this could become one of those MOBA clone disaster that no one can have anymore slice of cake than the big fishes. Fortnite and PUBG already saturated this market. Could make small fortune yes but can't say the same for long run.

I think this is going to have same fate as lawbreakers.

Who the hell is going to play this when you have Fortnite which is f2p and much more optimised and polished.

I have no idea. They're a studio that's quickly gaining a reputation for using other games' ideas but about 18 months too late
