I know a lot of people have been missing their microtransactions in Star Wars Battlefront II but fret not, they’re going to be back in next week. The free Night on Endor updates arrives on April 18th, reintroducing the controversial ‘Crystals’ currency that can be bought in packs with real cash. Crucially though, these Crystals can only be spent on Cosmetics now rather than the stat-boosting Star Cards.

“Crystals will return to Star Wars Battlefront II as one of the ways for fans to unlock Appearances, including Endor Leia and Endor Han,” says DICE. “Real-world currency can only be used to purchase Crystals, which are only redeemable for Appearances. Credits that are earned through in-game activity and can also be redeemed toward Appearances. Over 50 additional Appearances to personalize your units and heroes will be made available in this update.”

It sounds as if the microtransactions are going to be fairly unobtrusive, which is probably how they should’ve been in the first place. You live and learn, let’s just hope EA remembers this particular lesson for Battlefield V.

Of course, that’s not all that’s included in the Night on Endor update. There’s content aplenty thanks to the Ewok Hunt game mode. As one of the three fans on Ewoks on the planet this breaks my heart a little bit, but in this mode, you’ll be doing exactly what you’d expect. Players spawn with a team of stormtroopers and are besieged by Ewoks begging for a laser beam between their furry eyes. When killed, a player then spawns as an Ewok and attacks the remaining stormtroopers until their evacuation arrives. Make it to the end and murder enough Ewoks and you win, simple.

As well as there’s a bunch of new appearances for characters, game improvements like being able to convert Crafting Parts into Skill Points, and bonus Credits for winning a round.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 New Hero Appearances

  • Wounded Chewbacca, with Arm Patch
  • Scarred Kylo Ren, Patch over Scar
  • Administrator Lando, Bespin
  • Commander Iden, no Helmet
  • Hooded Yoda, pulled up Hood
  • Endor Leia
  • Endor Han
  • Ahch-To Rey

Finally, we come to Battlefront 2’s revamped season plans. Season Two is inbound, although it has suffered delay due to the work on the Progression Update. Content updates from now on will be split into two types: Events (like Ewok Hunt) and Seasons. Seasons will have a specific theme, such as tieing into a new movie, and will last multiple months, while Events will be one-off special modes and cosmetics. Season Two will arrive in May and likely includes new maps, vehicles, and weapons.

And that’s just about it. A smidgen of new content and the return of microtransactions to Star Wars Battlefront II. With the damage largely repaired, are DICE doing enough to tempt you in at least? Or is SW: BF2 just a lost cause for you?
