It’s driver merry-go-round time again for Nvidia GeForce owners. The GeForce 397.64 WHQL driver provides Game Ready Driver support for Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, Conan Exiles, and Destiny 2’s Warmind expansion.

Of the three games, Conan Exiles is sure to be the one that benefits most from performance optimisation. It’s made decent progress since its Early Access release last year, although it’s particularly renowned for being well-optimised. Conan Exiles left Steam Early Access this week, so with this latest 397.64 driver it should be in good shape.

As for Pillars of Eternity 2, it shouldn’t be a particularly demanding game in the first place. From my experience with the original, the most beneficial thing you can do is make sure Pillars 2 is running on an SSD to optimise the load times. There are often lengthy load times when heading in and out of building interiors, while 60fps is achieved pretty simply.

Lastly there’s Destiny 2: Warmind. The early reaction from fans for this expansion has been absolutely savage, so be warned if you’re thinking of picking it up. To call it light on content would be extremely generous. As for driver support, Destiny 2 already runs fantastically on PC, but with some additional optimisation you may still be able to squeeze out a few more frames.

Other additions for this driver release include updated SLI profiles for Kingdom Come: Deliverance and GRIP, a fix for black screen when exiting Starcraft 2 on Kepler GPUs, and God Rays should no longer become less intense in GTA V when forcing MSAA.

  • [Microsoft Edge][HDR] With HDR turned ON, video playback in full-screen mode on an HDR display may cause corruption of the video and desktop.
  • To recover, manually turn the monitor OFF and then back ON. This will be resolved in a future driver version.
  • [Far Cry 5]: Green flickering occurs in the game when using HDR with non-native resolution.
  • To work around, either quit and then restart the game while in the desired resolution, or press [Alt+tab] away from and then back to the game, or press [Alt+Enter] to switch to windowed mode and then back to full-screen mode.
  • [Wolfenstein II]: The crashes during gameplay.
  • [Call of Duty: WWII][Surround]: With Surround enabled, the center Surround display
  • is blank during gameplay.
  • [GeForce TITAN (Kepler-based)]: The OS fails after installing the graphics card on a Threadripper-enabled motherboard.
  • [Pascal GPUs][Gears of War 4]: Blue-screen crash may occur while playing the game.
  • [GeForce GTX 1080 Ti]{Warhammer Vermintide 2][DirectX 12]: TDR errors may occur when changing resolutions in game.
  • To work around, use the DirectX 11 game option.
  • [NVIDIA Control Panel][Surround]: NVIDIA Surround hot keys do not work.
  • [GeForce Experience][ShadowPlay]: The “In-Game Overlay” option cannot be enabled, nor does Shadowplay recording work.
  • The Microsoft Media Foundation library must be installed in order to use these features. Be sure to first install the Media Foundation package.

  • [Wolfenstein II]: The crashes during gameplay.
  • [Call of Duty: WWII][Surround]: With Surround enabled, the center Surround display is blank during gameplay.

As ever, you can download the driver direct from Nvidia, auto-update through GeForce Experience, or take the wiser approach and wait and see if there are any ill effects.
