Like an irradiated bear rising from the ashes, STALKER 2 has been announced. Again. GSC Game World, creators of the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R., have revealed that STALKER 2 is in development and is scheduled to launch at some point in 2021.

Yes, 2021 is a mighty long time away. And yes, like most games, STALKER 2 will probably end up being delayed beyond that. But at least GSC Game World is being somewhat realistic with its targets, and it would seem that development of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is still in the very early stages.

The STALKER series has been in limbo ever since 2011 when GSC founder Sergiy Grygorovych shut the studio down. The last official STALKER game was STALKER: Call of Pripyat in 2010. This effectively killed the chances of a sequel, and complications with the rights to the franchise meant ex-GSC developers were unable to continue the series, resulting in a number of former employees spinning off and developing the likes of Survarium, Metro, and a sole developer working for Battlestate Games on Escape From Tarkov.

Then, back in 2014, GSC Game World whirred back into life, announcing and then releasing Cossacks 3. Since then, things have been a little quiet, and now we know why.

STALKER 2 hasn’t been announced with much fanfare; all we have is a website officially revealing the game alongside the intended 2021 launch date. As this stage, nothing else is known about S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2. Rest assured though, we’ll bring you more just as soon as we hear it.

Are you hopeful that GSC Game World is still the studio it once was? What improvements do you want from a STALKER sequel? Let us know!
