DICE has just dropped an all-new teaser trailer for Battlefield V, revealing the briefest snippet of in-game footage from its upcoming first-person shooter.

And, from the looks of things, Battlefield 5 is going to be set during World War 2. We haven't got a great deal to go on here, but if you pause the footage at about seven seconds in, you can quite clearly see the British and Axis team flags. The solider shown also looks to be wearing pilot or tank gear from the era.

World War 2 it probably is then, but we're interested to see how this ties into DICE's promise of "unexpected theatres of war." WWII has already been represented significantly by the Battlefield series, but perhaps DICE has a few tricks up its sleeve.

We should find out all about it this time tomorrow when Battlefield V is revealed to the world.

Original Story: 21-May-18 - Battlefield V Will Take Place in an All-New Setting With 'Unexpected Theatres of War'

We should probably put those rumours of a World War 2 game on the backburner for now. The official Battlefield Twitter account has confirmed that Battlefield V will take players to an all-new theatre of war, taking placing in a setting never seen before in the Battlefield series.

Several new details were revealed by the Battlefield Twitter account, including that Battlefield 5 is “A New Battlefield in a New Setting. It’s a brand-new experience and still everything you love about Battlefield – where every fight is different and brought to life across unexpected theaters of war.”

Running down the list of notable wars, we’ve had World War 1, World War II, Vietnam, sci-fi with Battlefield 2042, modern combat in the Middle East and Asia with Battlefield 2, modern warfare in Iran-Iraq and New York-Paris in Battlefield 3, a fictional 2020 war between Russia, USA and China in Battlefield 4, and modern USA with Battlefield Hardline. They’ve covered a lot of bases there, so it makes it kind of difficult to predict where they’re going to head next.

In terms of the single-player campaign, Battlefield 1’s vignette-style War Stories will return. “DICE believes in both all-out multiplayer and single player, and the live reveal will have more info on the returning fan-favorite War Stories. Prepare for untold, compelling narratives in a new setting.” With War Stories returning, this provides a possible hint that we are looking at historical warfare once again, but just not one of ‘the big three’.

For multiplayer fans, a big part of the appeal of Battlefield 1 was the absolute carnage that could be found in Operations mode. DICE hasn’t gone so far as to confirm Operations will be returning to Battlefield V, but it is heavily hinting at it, saying “Operations in Battlefield 1 gave you the chance to take on epic journeys across several maps. Will this teamplay-focused experience be in the next Battlefield? You’ll know if you watch the live reveal.”

Last but not least, there are “exciting gameplay changes” coming to the Battlefield series that are going to be unveiled during the Battlefield V Live Reveal. Sadly, EA and DICE don’t want to ruin the surprise for us, but all will be revealed this coming Wednesday, May 23rd.
