Sony debuted the first trailer for the upcoming Ghost of Tsushima during its E3 2018 showcase. Sucker Punch’s upcoming samurai action game is already looking absolutely gorgeous even at this early stage, despite the bit of work needed on the occasional rough animations.
The Ghost of Tsushima trailer lays out the Mongol invasion of the Japanese island of Tsushima in 1274. The Mongol Empire has laid waste to the samurai defenders but protagonist Jin Sakai is of the last remaining survivors of a samurai clan. Unlike traditional samurai nobility though, Jin Sakai must learn the way of the Ghost in order to overcome the overwhelming number of enemies.
In the gameplay trailer, we see the Ostuna Grasslands. While slightly lacking in individual detail, the overall effect of the lighting and the colour palette used is just superb. The Ostuna Grasslands is filled with brilliant white and yellow fields, set against a moody storm blowing in. It’s easy on the eye, put it that way, and clearly owes a lot to some of more renown samurai action movies.
Ghost of Tsushima still doesn’t haven’t a release date yet for PlayStation 4, so we’re probably looking at either a 2019 or 2020 release date.
