The Dakar Rally is one of the longest and most notorious off-road races in the world, although precious few games have even attempted to do the 9000-mile, two-week event justice. Step forward, Dakar 18.

Previously taking place in Europe and Africa, the Dakar Rally now takes place in Peru, Bolivia and Argentina, with Dakar 18 featuring more than 12,000km2 of open world based on satellite-mapped terrain. You can't fault developer Bigmoon for ambition, but what about the system specs required to run Dakar 18?

Developer Bigmoon Entertainment is kind of an unknown entity to us, having only released Syndrome VR up to this point. Dakar 18 could run magnificently, it may not, all we know for sure are the newly revealed system specs and the knowledge that it's been developed in Unreal Engine 4.

In terms of system requirements, Dakar 18 aligns pretty well with the average AAA PC game in 2018, aside from system RAM usage which is nice and low. Down at the minimum spec, a low-end 2GB DX11 video card such as the GeForce GTX 660 or Radeon HD 7870 should do, paired with a quad-core processor. The large environments, long draw distances, and potentially high vehicle counts does mean that Dakar 18 could be fairly CPU-dependant. On the plus side, it will run on a system with just 4GB RAM.

The recommended specs for Dakar 18 are a massive leap upwards, indicative that users will have a wide variety of graphics settings to tweak in order to achieve the desired performance. Dakar 18 will also benefit from a CPU with a solid 3.5GHz+ clock speed, while 6GB VRAM is recommended for users who want to max out the game's graphics options.

As ever, remember you can always check out how well your PC can run the Dakar 18 System Requirements here, where you can check benchmarking and performance from other users. Compare your graphics card to the Dakar 18 GPU benchmark chart and we also have a Dakar 18 Frames Per Second system performance chart for you to check.
