In the absence of Valve ever bothering with Left 4 Dead 3, Overkill is stepping up to the plate with The Walking Dead, a four-player co-operative first-person shooter set in a post-apocalyptic Washington DC. They're the folks behind the Payday series, so they know a thing or two about co-op. Should you be hoping to give Overkill's The Walking Dead a shot on PC though, be warned the system requirements are pretty demanding.
Overkill's The Walking Dead Minimum System Requirements
- OS: Windows 7 64-bit
- CPU: Intel Core i5-660 3.33 GHz or AMD FX-4100 3.6GHz
- RAM: 8 GB System Memory
- GPU RAM: 2GB Video Memory
- GPU: GeForce GTX 960 or Radeon RX 460 2GB
- HDD: 60GB Available Hard Drive Space
- DX: DirectX 11
Overkill's The Walking Dead Recommended System Requirements
- OS: Windows 10 64-bit
- CPU: Intel Core i7-2600K 3.4 GHz or AMD 5 1400 3.5 GHz
- RAM: 16 GB System Memory
- GPU RAM: 6GB Video Memory
- GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 6GB or AMD Radeon RX 580 8GB
- HDD: 60GB Available Hard Drive Space
- DX: DirectX 11
Having a GeForce GTX 960 as the absolute minimum graphics card for The Walking Dead clearly makes this more demanding than your average game. You're going to need to throw quite a bit of hardware at The Walking Dead if you want to achieve high settings at 1080p resolution.
One area in which The Walking Dead is particularly demanding is the memory. 8GB is suggested as the absolute minimum, while 16GB is recommended. Having 16GB likely won't noticeably improve performance, although if you're planning to run The Walking Dead with 8GB RAM you may need to close all other applications.
Fortunately, the CPU requirements are a little less demanding. According to the official specs, a first-gen Core i5 should do the job, or an AMD FX-4100 if you're on the red team. However, the large number of enemies on and off-screen at any one time could prove a bottleneck for CPU performance, so draw distance may need to take a hit.
As ever, remember you can always check out how well your PC can run the Overkill's The Walking Dead System Requirements here, where you can check benchmarking and performance from other users. Compare your graphics card to the Overkill's The Walking Dead GPU benchmark chart and we also have an Overkill's The Walking Dead Frames Per Second system performance chart for you to check.

Well at least i know when i build my system next month i should be able to play on high/very high settings.
PC Specs
What's so bad about the requirements?
8GB RAM is totally reasonable in 2018. Nobody can complain about the CPU. I remember GTX 960 was a pretty bad buy when it released, and it's far from new, being 3-4 years old now. Though I'm 100% sure you'll be able to run it on some even older GPUs as long as you have enough vRAM. 60GB is a bit too much but nowdays it's nothing new for a game to take that much space
PC Specs
I hope this game is good
PC Specs
that actually looks pretty normal, recommends a 2011 cpu, alot new games recommends 16gb, 50+ gb is kinda norm for games, we just surprised, since other walking dead games was 2d, meaning they can run on intel HD graphics lol
PC Specs
which walking dead was 2d?
PC Specs
probably thought the TellTale series looks like drawing so he refers those as 2d? *shrug
PC Specs
Well there was that horrible Walking Dead game that was based on the show as well which some people might remember that more than the telltale series.
PC Specs
Yeah, like walking dead michone etc, well they were pretty amazing though, but what I think is that they will change the requirements as the release date comes closer, since these days that is happening ALOT!
PC Specs
Not surprised, Overkill can't optimise for crap
PC Specs
please no more zombie games, im tired of it :/
PC Specs
I'm with ya...... media in general(not just gaming) is extremely over saturated with zombies right now..... maybe revisit them in 10 years or something........ try something new until then!
PC Specs
I'm tired of bad zombie games not zombie games in general.
PC Specs
But but but, Dying Light was pretty good IMHO.
PC Specs
Dying Light has been the only good zombie game so far (Not counting Telltale's The Walking Dead games even though I love them).
PC Specs
What you're not going to count Left 4 Dead as well?
PC Specs
I owned both on xbox 360 (got 2 on PC for free), but honestly I don't count it as L4D imo is not that great and has a really toxic community on PC from my experience.
PC Specs
Im tired of battle royal games.
PC Specs
No. News about new battle royal games. That's what I'm tired about. I mean, I don't play those, but only hearing/reading about it gets me bored.
PC Specs
lol same xD.
PC Specs
I am pretty excited for this game, but it won't be a day one purchase for me, not after what they did to Payday 2.
PC Specs
At least they still make content for it, although it has millions of DLC and bugs in the game. I don't know how, but back when I used a eGPU setup on my laptop, it ran the game at 1024x... on my 1680x1050 monitor, but it was actually full resolution, not scaled or whatsoever, some sort of performance hack or so
PC Specs
Didn't expected the game to come in PC, well that surprise is just Overkill..
PC Specs
specs look alright, that 60GB drive space is a bit overkill, but who knows how big and detailed the world will be
PC Specs
FFXV with Rez pack
hold my bear
PC Specs
I don't think any of us can lift a bear, let alone hold one
PC Specs
hahahaha didnt see mistake
PC Specs
I have 4x2 "dual channel" DDR3 ram but ive been hitting 7000 mb usage recently after which the system slows down. So if i add another 4 gb stick will it operate stably or should i spend on a separate Ram kit?
PC Specs
If you're running out of ram now, then the 4GB would do the trick, but if you can afford an all new 16GB Kit, then just go for it. That way you'll be able to keep dual channel mode.
PC Specs
how do you manage to fill up 7gb of ram with that GPU?
PC Specs
His Vram gets filled up, so 7GB of system ram gets used instead.
PC Specs
i run into ram problems only in gta 5. No it doesnt max out but after hitting the 6.5 gig mark i can notice fps drops
PC Specs
They are Staying True to there Name at least
PC Specs
Holy crap...... so the minimum is essentially a GTX 1050 TI? o.O
PC Specs
I dont think so, it is closer to GTX1050 only than the TI variant.
PC Specs
Hmm, the best 960 performs about the same as the 1050 ti though
PC Specs
Game doesn't even look that good graphically, where is all this going toward lol?
PC Specs
bad optimisation
PC Specs
Why is the cpu a i7-2600k but we need a gtx 960. Did they mess up somewhere?
PC Specs
why thats looks like a good combo to me?
PC Specs
The i7-2600k is quite old and "slower" than the last 3 gen i5s. So nothing wrong there.
PC Specs
true it is old but he is enouth for gaming as is 960
PC Specs
That's not mild. So are all games going to have a 16gb recommended spec now?
PC Specs
it depends from optimization, you rarely need more than 8 gb of ram, but optimized games try to use the maximum amount of ram in order to make your experience smoother, reduce load times and so on, for example cod WW2 uses 10/12 gb of my ram, but it runs well also on 8gb systems
PC Specs
uhm except cod ww2 stutters like hell on 8gb of ram
PC Specs
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HnuNs_Nu46Q
PC Specs
Same with battlefield 1, I upgraded to 16 back when they were 50 for 8gb, now they are doubled in price and I resold them for the price I paid :p
PC Specs
im sorry, what? you posted a ltt video about 8gb of ram without cod ww2 test in it and you say it runs fine:D
this is a proper test and everyone who did quite some research knows that cod ww2 runs really bad on 8gb of ram,
https://youtu.be/vEgKZSKWh70?t=2m56s
PC Specs
It was just an example because i own it, there are others like the video says
PC Specs
that spec ain't minimum
PC Specs
Iirc they wanted 1000s of individual zombies to bond together and form a sort of wave that's storming at you, so I actually thought they'd require way more computational power and actually expected a hyperthreaded 6-core as recommended.
I think with these requirements it's clear that there won't be a wave of individual zombies, and that the wave will actually be a single object with only a few individual units in the front which makes me sad.
Or maybe I'm thinking about an entirely different game and mixing things up here.
PC Specs
Yeah I believe you're thinking of Days Gone bud
PC Specs
Zombie fans sure get a good treatment with so many new titles coming out soon
PC Specs
But left4dead2 also has hordes of zombies, hmmmm
PC Specs
For me, that's a shame, UE4 doesn't require that much power. ARK Survival Evolved is not optimized but it's a beautiful game. Overkill's The Walking Dead is a semi-open world game which is not that great physics and graphics
