While it might seem they're all wrapped up in lawsuits, Stardock is actually busy reviving the class Star Control series. Part space exploration, part management, players have a universe at their fingertips and the problem of an alien race known as the Scryve which wants to exterminate humanity. Star Control Origins is a rebirth of a very old game series, but that doesn't mean any old PC going to be able to run it. Here are the official Star Control Origins system requirements.

Star Control Origins Minimum System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 7 64-bit
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-650 3.2 GHz or AMD A6-3600 Quad-Core 2.1GHz
  • RAM: 4 GB System Memory
  • GPU RAM: 2GB Video Memory
  • GPU: GeForce GTX 660 or Radeon R9 270
  • HDD: 26GB Available Hard Drive Space
  • DX: DirectX 11

Star Control Origins Recommended System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit
  • CPU: Intel Core i7-2600S 2.6 GHz or AMD FX-8320 3.5 GHz
  • RAM: 8 GB System Memory
  • GPU RAM: 4GB Video Memory
  • GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 980 or AMD Radeon R9 290
  • HDD: 26GB Available Hard Drive Space
  • DX: DirectX 11

Now, no disrespect to Star Control Origins but this strategy game ain't exactly going to be the first asked to the prom. Visually, Star Control Origins is fairly rudimentary. Much of it is menu-based but there is some 3D modeling and some pretty basic planetary surfaces to explore. There's absolutely nothing to suggest that a GeForce GTX 980 or Radeon R9 290 would be required to max out the game though, and we suspect these system requirements have to come way, way down between now and SC: Origins September 20th launch.

Anyway, in regards to the information we do have, we suspect the minimum specs should be able to run Star Control Origins with few, if any, sacrifices. A modest 2GB VRAM DX11 graphics card shouldn't encounter any issues. It looks for all the world like a game that came out 15 years ago, to be honest, and just about any gaming hardware from the past decade should be ok.

But, and there's always a but, we can't overlook the recommended specs. A GeForce GTX 980 or Radeon R9 290 seem ludicrously overpower, but they are the GPUs that Stardock is recommending to run Star Control Origins at the ideal settings.

As ever, remember you can always check out how well your PC can run the Star Control Origins System Requirements here, where you can check benchmarking and performance from other users. Compare your graphics card to the Star Control Origins GPU benchmark chart and we also have an Star Control Origins Frames Per Second system performance chart for you to check.
