Up For Debate - What Games are you Planning to Buy for the Rest of 2018?

We live in a world where there are more games releasing than ever before. And the games that do come out are also capturing our interest for longer, developers giving updates like candy as they all seek to compete for our limited time. Just look at Steam these days and you’ll see around 40 games launching each and every day. The vast majority look terrible but there’s always one or two decent looking games every day you look.

We’ve only got so much and so much money then, which is why it’s important we carefully choose which games are going to be worthy of our hard-earned money.

I know some folks like to keep spreadsheets, others have the grey matter to keep it all in their heads, while some have no gaming plans whatsoever, picking up their purchases on an absolute whim. Usually, just about everyone has one or two big games they’re almost guaranteed to buy.

So as we head into what is promising to be an absolute hectic final five months of 2018, we thought it would be the perfect time to take stock and share what games we’re all planning to buy. Who knows, if you’re feeling particularly brave you could even add the total cost up. Just make sure you fight back those tears when you see the final figure, for everyone’s sake.

I’ll kick things off with my list. I’ve had to trim it down slightly because there are plenty of games, like Shadow of the Tomb Raider, that I will certainly buy eventually, but I just don’t think they’re worth full price at launch.

Yakuza Kiwami 2, Spider-Man, Dragon Quest XI, Life is Strange 2, FIFA 19, Red Dead Redemption 2, Battlefield V, Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu, Super Smash Bros Ultimate, and, maybe, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. That’s just the AAA as well, and I’m sure there’s going to be an impressive smattering of indie titles that I’m going to be powerless to resist as well. Just this list alone is already a frightening £550 worth of games. Thinking about it I may have to actually rein it in a bit.

Anyway, enough of my plans, what about yours? What games are you planning on buying between now and the year’s end? Are there any must-haves this holiday or aren't you making any decisions until you see the reviews?

Q "like Shadow of the Tomb Raider, that I will certainly buy eventually, but I just don’t think they’re worth full price at launch"
EXACTLY the point.

Why wouldn't it be worth it? O_O
Name me something more worth it than a good singleplayer game with a good to great story and characters, great level design and great gameplay and mechanics.

Definitely Battlefield V and Tomb Raider. Was not sure about BFV, but the alpha showed that the gunplay is so good I will play it, BF1 gunplay is so awful.

Yup BF1's gunplay was terrible due to the next to none recoil(skill controlled by the player) and tons of bullet spread(randomness impossible to be controlled by the player, no skill). BFV they confirmed they are going back to pre-2015 BF4 and BF3 model of the meh amount of recoil with minimal bullet spread, much preferred.

Hitman 2 is almost certain. H2016 was fantastic and I don't expect anything less from this one.
I maybe go for the new Tomb Raider too, depends on how I feel, but I'll certainly play it sometime down the line. New Theme Hospital is on my list, Phantom Doctrine and Banner Saga 3 which I wasn't aware was released 3 days ago so I'm already behind.
That's the most that comes to mind.

Any recommendations are welcome though, especially turn based Xcom like games releasing in near future which I may not be aware of. Management or strategy games are also my favorites so anything there is also highly appreciated.

AC Odyssey is the only AAA game I'll consider buying, I'm not too fussed on any of the others.
I'll probably pick up a few indie games though, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night if it's released this year will be a day one purchase.

No western triple A game as a service crap that's for sure! I will not buy anything that has monetization within it after the initial $60+ payment.

It depends on how many games I can clear of my backlog first. I will definitely be buying Monster Hunter World to play with friends though.

If manage to shrink my backlog it will probably be AC Odyssey and Spiderman.

I don't have any sheet for ig. I just buy the games I want when I have time to play them.

The days of hoarding games are over.

very ready for Lara Croft ... Shadow Of The Tomb Raider and as we know, nvidia will do a big job with it, yes, this will be my best buy in 2018 with full package. Hope it will be super graphics, just as good as Rise Of the Tomb Raider.
