We’re now than less than a week away from Shadow of the Tomb Raider heralding the return of one of gaming’s most iconic characters. But what’s been leading up to this moment? A lengthy new trailer from Square Enix provides a handy refresher course of what’s happened so far in the Tomb Raider origins trilogy, from those first moments Lara washed ashore Yamatai, right through to that final epic showdown in Rise of the Tomb Raider. Suffice to say, SPOILER WARNING if you haven’t played through the original two games just yet.
There we go, all caught up now? Lara Croft has been through the wringer, no doubt about it, although she’s handily transformed into one of the most effective killers on the planet. Next step - the Mayan apocalypse for Shadow of the Tomb Raider, a South American jaunt that certainly looks evolution rather than revolution. It’s the first Tomb Raider game to have Deus Ex developer Eidos Montreal at the helm, which is certainly reason for excitement.
The system requirements for Shadow of the Tomb Raider also emerged over the weekend. It’s quite a demanding PC game so do be sure to check those out before next week’s launch.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider is coming to PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on September 14th. Cough up some extra dosh for the Croft Edition and you can begin playing a couple of days earlier on September 12th. I’ll be honest though, please don’t, it’s a terribly anti-consumer business practice.
