Nintendo got last night’s direct off with a bang thanks to the announcement of Luigi’s Mansion 3 for Nintendo Switch. The lanky plumber is Nintendo’s secret weapon with both previous Luigi’s Mansion titles being absolutely excellent.

Details are incredibly scarce on Luigi’s Mansion 3, aside from the briefest of gameplay teaser trailers and confirmation it’ll be out in 2019.

In the footage, we can see Luigi has the same new Poltergust from the latest Smash Bros trailer, and he doesn’t appear to have got any braver in the intervening years. Just like the previous games in the series, Luigi’s Mansion 3 looks to be an adventure game with action elements. Luigi will poke and prod about a haunted house, uncovering unique ghosts that need capturing.

Fingers crossed that Nintendo opts for the design of Luigi’s Mansion rather than Luigi’s Mansion 2 though. The latter was stage-based with smaller mansions, while the original was one giant Resident Evil-style mansion to gradually explore. The artwork appears to show a huge, several-story hotel, so hopefully, LM3 is leaning more towards the original game.

Luigi’s Mansion 3 is out in 2019 on Nintendo Switch.

Looks like it's still lacking the tone of the first game. The original Luigi's Mansion was legitimately scary at times, it told stories, it was dense, and had an AMAZING atmosphere. They need to make the maps literally darker.
