Hot on the heels of Nvidia’s RTX 20 Series driver release, AMD has pushed out the Radeon Software Adrenalin Edition 18.9.2 GPU drivers with improved performance across a range of new AAA titles.

There are a few juicy numbers provided for the 18.9.2 driver release, including enhanced performance with Radeon graphics cards in Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Fortnite, F1 2018 and Star Control: Origins.

The biggest performance gains can be found in Star Control: Origins, which sees 17% faster frame rates with the 18.9.2 Adrenalin driver using a Radeon RX Vega 64 at 4K resolution. That’s a hefty bump so it’s looking like a must-have driver for those picking up Stardock’s space-faring reboot.

Elsewhere, there’s 4% faster performance to be gained in Shadow of the Tomb Raider using the same RX Vega 64 ar 1440p, 5% higher frames in Fortnite at 1080p, and finally 3 percent faster performance in F1 2018 at 1440p.

While AMD’s only specified the Radeon RX Vega 64, you can expect similar but perhaps smaller performance bumps in the rest of AMD’s current-gen crop of video cards.

As always there are a handful of known issues to watch out for. AMD Ryzen APUs with Vega graphics can have problems with the installation so AMD recommends a clean install. Use a piece of software like DDU (Display Driver Uninstall) to ensure it’s a fresh install.

Radeon Software Adrenalin Edition 18.9.2 Known Issues

  • Some AMD Ryzen Desktop Processors with Radeon Vega Graphics system configurations may experience a black screen during installation downgrade to a previous Radeon Software version. A recommended workaround is to perform a clean install during Radeon Software installation.
  • Radeon RX Vega Series graphics products may experience elevated memory clocks during system idle.
  • System configurations with 16+ CPU cores may experience a random system reboot during installation when upgrading Radeon Software from a version older than RSAE 18.8.1. A clean installation is recommended when performing this Radeon Software upgrade.

As per usual the latest AMD Radeon driver can be download through your current Adrenalin installation, or you can download it manually from over here.
