Nvidia has confirmed that GeForce RTX 2070 will be launching worldwide from October 17th. The GeForce RTX 2070 is pitched as the entry-level RTX graphics card capable of real-time ray tracing, priced at $599 for the RTX 2070 Founders Edition.

The official word from Nvidia is that the GeForce RTX 2070’s AIB editions will start at $499, making it the most affordable RTX GPU, for what it's worth. Judging from the RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 Ti launches though, this is a hollow promise. In reality, we expect the cheapest GeForce RTX 2070 to be available at around the same price as the $599 Founders Edition.

In terms of what the GeForce RTX 2070 will offer, it’ll be based on the Turing TU106 GPU. The RTX 2070 will sit at the bottom of the stack in regards to performance, offering a cut-down number of CUDA and Tensor cores, as well as offering roughly 60% of the ray-tracing capabilities of the RTX 2080 Ti.

With the GeForce RTX 2080 roughly slotting in alongside the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti in terms of performance, we expect the RTX 2070 to be on par, or slightly faster than, a GeForce GTX 1080. While it’ll command a price premium over the previous-gen model, it will benefit from low-end ray tracing capabilities and support DLSS for improved image quality and performance.

Nvidia's GeForce RTX 2070 will be generally available from October 17th. it appears this will be the date on which the RTX 2070 can be ordered rather than shipped, so if you're planning to pick one up you may have a little wait on your hands. As ever though, we strongly advise you wait on performance benchmarks before dropping a significant amount of cash.
