This latest rumour is coming in hot, but reports are swirling that Baldur’s Gate 3 is in development, some 18 years after Baldur’s Gate II last blew us away with its D&D-based RPG antics.

Most excitingly of all though, it’s being mooted that none other than Larian Studios, of Divinity: Original Sin 2 fame, has acquired the rights to Baldur’s Gate 3 and is heading up development.

Sources at RPG Codex are suggesting ex-Larian employees have divulged the information. A user over there has said “New colleague of mine is a former Larian employee. He says Swen acquired the Baldur's Gate license. No further information on when they're going to use it and for what, but they have it.”

In tandem with this, Brian Fargo, founder of inXile Entertainment and known for The Bard’s Tale and Wasteland series, among others, claimed on Twitter that “I happen to know who is working on BG3.”

Larian Studios has, naturally, denied such claims, so we’ll have to take such rumours with a hefty pinch of salt. If true though, it’s tough to think of a pair of more reliable hands for an eventual Baldur’s Gate 3 than the RPG maestros at Larian.
