Intel 9th Gen CPU Launch Event to Take Place October 8th

Written by Jon Sutton on Sun, Oct 7, 2018 4:13 PM

It’s new hardware time - Intel has officially announced the launch event for its next-gen Intel Core processors will be taking place tomorrow, October 8th, at 10am EDT.

Intel will be live-streaming the launch of its 9th-Gen CPUs tomorrow, as well as the arrival of the Z390 chipset platform.

There have been leaks aplenty in regards to Intel’s CPU lineup so we should, in theory, know exactly what we’re getting. Barring any major surprises, the Intel Core i9-9900K should be the new flagship cheap, while the Core i3, Core i5, and Core i7 processors will all be surrendering multithreading in favour of higher core clock speeds.

“Every PC user is unique, with a wide variety of performance needs and requirements to ensure their success,” says Intel.

“Tune in at 10 a.m. EDT (7 a.m. PDT) on Monday, Oct. 8, on the Intel Newsroom to learn more about the latest PC performance developments from Intel.”

Intel's 9th Gen processors will be sticking with a revised 14nm process after issues with 10nm fabrication. Small to moderate gains over 8th Gen Coffee Lake is anticipated, although we don't expect these new processors to be particularly groundbreaking. However, it does offer Intel the opportunity to regain its stranglehold on the market after AMD's resurgence, provided Intel's supply can actually meet demand this time around.

We'll bring you more on the Intel 9th Gen launch event as it happens tomorrow.

Find a second-hand i7 3770 and you're golden! Lots of retailers / small PC services extract them from office tech, give them a polish and sell them with a 6 to 12 months guarantee!

How much could you get one for?

Well, depends a lot on average prices in your country - in my case, I bought the i7 4770 for a similar price to the cheapest R5 1600, just as a reference (technically, you could find it for less, but no additional guarantee if it works fine).
You'd ask "why bother going backward with an older cpu"? Well, its still cheaper to replace the CPU only than a new CPU + mobo + RAM!

Haven't tried out any of the AC games, but according to this & other sites, its some-what the equivalent of an R5 - 2600 CPU (minus the higher RAM frequency capability). You can check out youtube gameplay for any HW component in particular:

For example: i7 4790 vs a modern mid range CPU:

Seems stable enough & not bottelnecking GTX 1070 - 1080 class GPUs

Thx for the link, I'll check them out.

And btw, I'm all for reusing old hardware.

Wonder how they'll call the next generation.

10000 CPU line seems kinda silly.

I hope that the new z390 will support hdmi 2.0 and 3 or 4 slot spacing.
