For those of a competitive nature, you may have found something a little lacking in Hitman. Fear not, brave bald murderers, for help is at hand. IO Interactive has announced a new 1v1 competitive multiplayer mode for Hitman 2. Dubbed ‘Ghost Mode’, this drops players into the same deadly sandbox and pits them against one another, simultaneously hunting the same targets in a battle to come out on top.

Rather than straight up PvP though, each player’s Agent 47 will be represented as a ghost version in their rival’s game. In Hitman 2 Ghost Mode, players start side-by-side and must race to take out five targets, both faster and cleaner than their opponent can. Their actions won’t affect one another, although they will be able to see what progress is being made by the other player.

Ghost Mode is a sort of PvPvE twist on Hitman 2 then, forcing players to balance speed against stealth, all the while watching the progress of their opponent as they gnaw away at their lead. To my mind, there’s not really much out there quite like this, so it could prove a very entertaining diversion in Hitman 2.

IO Interactive has said only the Miami map will support Ghost Mode when Hitman 2 launches on November 13th for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. However, more locations will subsequently roll out with post-launch updates.
