Not content with requiring a hefty 149GB of storage place to download and install on PlayStation 4, or coming on two discs if you’re buying it physically, Red Dead Redemption 2 is also set to get a major game update on launch day.
Red Dead Redemption 2’s Day One Title Update will be made available this Friday, October 26th. It won’t be required to play RDR2, but Rockstar does “strongly recommend” making sure you download it.
While the details are a little flaky, Rockstar has said it will address a number of last-minute tweaks, bugs, and fixes, ensuring the most stable gameplay experience. There’s a question mark hanging over the size of the patch, but like anything involving Red Dead Redemption 2, we doubt it’s going to be small. We’re hearing word Red Dead 2 takes a couple of hours to install off the discs, so if you’re going the physical route you could be in for quite a wait.
In addition to this, Rockstar also announced the Red Dead Redemption 2 Companion App that’ll be available this coming Friday for both iOS and Android. The Red Dead 2 app connects directly with your PS4 or Xbox One in real-time and can be used to view the map, set waypoints, and mark areas of interest.
Interestingly, crucial elements like Arthur Morgan’s core info and stats can also be offloaded to a mobile device, allowing Red Dead Redemption 2 to be played complete HUD-free. It also contains stat tracking, a game manual, and the ability to view Arthur's in-game journal.
These apps usually come across as pretty needless, yet considering the sheer size and scope of Red Dead Redemption 2, it could end up coming in very handy.
Red Dead Redemption is out on October 26th for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
