New Nvidia 310.33 beta drivers Increase Gaming Performance

Written by Luuk on Wed, Oct 24, 2012 5:09 PM

After the launch of AMD's new drivers, which severely increased the performance of the AMD cards, Nvidia start to make some noise about their own new drivers. These are currently known as 310.33 Beta drivers.

Nvidia are telling people that the R310-series beta driver's increase the performance in certain games, and also 3D Vision and SLI-profiles have been improved. The 400-series have now received OpenGL 4.3 support. The performance boost is mainly noticeable in the GeForce 400/500/600-series, lets take a look and see what sort of performance gains we are hearing about...

New in R310 Drivers:

*Performance Boost – Increases performance for GeForce 400/500/600 Series GPUs in several PC games vs. GeForce 306.97 WHQL-certified drivers. Results will vary depending on your GPU and system configuration:

GeForce GTX 680:

Up to 11% in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Up to 6% in StarCraft II

Up to 6% in Batman: Arkham City

GeForce GTX 660:

Up to 6% in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Up to 3% in Batman: Arkham City

Up to 4% in Dragon Age II

Just to make it perfectly clear, this is Nvidia's data and currently unproven by an independent source. We were also hoping for a little more information on the general performance boosts across all the cards, as AMD informed us recently about their new driver. The final point of note is that Skyrim and DA2 do not really need anything close to a GTX 660, let alone a GTX 680 to get it running at full power, so this data seems a little moot.

Graphically the issue with Batman Arkham City last year was that it chugged if you even looked at the DX11 graphic setting, which was due to very poor optimisation as opposed to a lack of power from the GPUs of the day.

Ok so what else have Nvidia got in store for us with this driver update?

AMD and Nvidia are doing their best to make the best drivers for their products, that's what are they all about.AMD had financial problems after buying ATi.But it's recovering stronger than ever They are challenging even mighty Intel.AMD dominates on GPU market head to head with Nvidia often better with better/lower prices and not worse products.Great future is in front of them.

maybe just better price .... ...and amd didn't buy ati .....togheter have a contract and thats all .......i appreciate AMD for price ........but head to head with intel and nvidia .... its like renault(tuned) vs laborghini ....but my point was that we us gamers must be very critical with amd and nvidia to get us best drivers ...so far not so good drivers ...I have more expectations ..and not just me ( all professional enthusiastic gamers ( IEM-ROG) :)

AMD actually bought ATi for 5.4 billion dollars. Presently the fastest single chip GPU is AMD Radeon 7970 GHz edition. You can't say that AMDs are slow, they has a lot more compute power than Nvidia who has focused on gaming only and crippled their cards for all other purposes. One 7770 has a compute power like GTX680.If you mean Nvidia 3D Vision? AMD has an answer to that - 'Eyefinity'. I don't like the whole story about drivers, drivers between different architectures are hard to compare.AMD releases new drivers very often, every month.

You are comparing reference HD 7970 with OCed ASUS GTX680 Direct CU II Top.That's not a fair comparison.Compare ASUS GTX680 Direct CU II Top with ASUS Matrix HD 7970 GHz Platinum edition, or with MSI 7970 Lightning edition. You are saying the clocks of GTX680 but they can't be compared that easily with 7970 since architectures are totally different.AMD also has a slogan "Gaming Evolved", LG "Life's Good", Leadtek "We make dream reality", remember the slogans of all politicians...

7970 GHZ edition with the new drivers beats the 680.
To your point about AMD Maz they are actually in a world of hurt right now. Their GPU divison, and yes they did buy ATI, is the only portion that makes money. They recent just cut 15% of their staff which is a massive downsizing.

I prefer to wait a year maybe two and go like a real gamer nvidia + intel so gamers dominate gaming with intel i7 and Nvidia 90 PERCENT% games are optimized just nvidia ...even PS3 AND PS2 HAVE NVIDIA CHIPSET

Ok first off you say "Real Test" and link to the 3D Mark test which is a synthetic test. Secondly as we said earlier comparing a reference card to a overclocked card is not fair because obviously the OC card will win. Even in the article you posted the reference 680 loses high resolution benchmarks to the 7970 and the DirectCU II is barely ahead. Plus that was before the new drivers which give the 7970 a 7% boost which would be better. Compare a OC 7970 to a OC 680. Also yes the old consoles have Nvidia chipset but all three of the new consoles have AMD.

The link you submitted is not directed to the site that has ASUS Matrix 7970 benchmarks. these are the benchmarks of GTX690,680,670,7970GHz,7970,7950 in Metro 2033.As you can see GTX680 loses against 7970GHz on common 1920x1080 resolution and as resolution and AA increases dropping down more due to much lower bandwidth and frame buffer.ASUS MATRIX is actually cooler than reference 7970GHz model.Toms hardware is one of the most trustworthy sites.

overall gtx 680 dc2t wins at 90% games are there. the most powerfull and coolest single GPU on the market ........so i dont thik people buy GPU just for Metro 2033 ??? it is an old game and the effects look's better on metro 2033 on Nvdia PhysX by NVIDIA that's why lose at just metro 2033 at minimal fps :) so go on the EA forums,Ubisoft and ask Platform testers ,game testers ....building a game is based on nvidia quality and fps ...Grand Theft Auto V will have Nvidia Logo and of course optimization

Here are Anand Tech benchmarks based on stock clocks of 7970GHz and GTX680.As you can see GTX680 isn't faster at 90% of games they are actually head to head, and with new drivers 7970GHz will most likely beat it.Since 7970GHz and GTX680 has similar temps and ASUS GTX680 DCU II TOP and ASUS Matrix 7970 use same cooling their temperatures differences are very tight while 7970 can be insanely OCed.Moreover price of ASUS GTX680-DC II Top is $529, ASUS MATRIX-HD7970 costs just $499.Logo means pretty much nothing as it is just marketing.AMD has it's logo in BF3 as well as Nvidia. You can check my blog about ASUS Matrix 7970GHz or check some reviews on the internet.

Adaptive VSync works great and makes gaming very smooth.Rather it is worth it or not only you can decide that mate here you can check this out maybe it will give you insight the GeForce GTX680 DirectCU II TOP edition card it's factory overclocked pretty high, is pimped out and custom cooled. Hard to beat imo ....... ASUS GTX 680 DirectCU II TOP is the most powerful GeForce GTX 680 model with the highest GPU nominal frequency and efficient cooling system. It is an excellent choice for real gamers...

So, of course you need to give a lot of money for this card but there is just one question you need to ask yourself - Do you want the best in gaming? If your answer is yes, money can't be the object and the solution is clear - GeForce GTX 680 in ASUS DirectCU II Top edition. i own this beautiful monster

ASUS GTX680-DC2T-2GD5 is the best graphics card that we ever tested on our PCAXE portal. This is the easiest way to describe this model. ASUS GTX680-DC2T-2GD5 has excellent performances which, with factory overclock that has warranty, are boosted by 10% and, moreover, there is still space to boost it for 10% more, which we showed during out test. At the same time, this card wasn't too loud, just opposite it was pretty quiet, so we decided to give it nickname “Big Bertha with silencer” J because it reminded us on this powerful German large caliber cannon that you can't hear when fired.

I'd say forget it Maz. While they are both great cards he doesn't understand that comparing a reference 7970Ghz to a DC2 680 is obviously biased towards the DC2 680. he owns the card so no data will prove to him that the 7970 spanks the 680 at high resolutions like 2560x1440. He is so convinced that his is the best card he won't listen to reason. I think he thinks we are trying to put down his card and he is getting defensive, which we aren't.

These drivers i think are the reason why my max payne 3 language changed to japanese...Because in the "System information" i have some japanese text on the info. So anyone who has max payne 3 there is a solution. Add a commandline.txt into the folder where the .exe is at and write in to it "-language english" then save, it forces the language to english. Good drivers anyway.
