UPDATE: The 4K system requirements for Just Cause 4 have also now been released. Playing Just Cause 4 at 4K screen resolution will naturally require a top-end gaming PC. For the sake of simplicity we've added the Just Cause 4 4K system specs to the original article below.

Original Story - 31-Oct-2018 - Just Cause 4 PC System Requirements Revealed

Rico Rodriguez is back for Just Cause 4, but this time he'll be fighting extreme weather systems alongside the usual rogue's gallery of grunts. Set on the fictional island of Solis, in South America, Just Cause 4 features a massive 1024 squad kilometre map with rainforests, deserts, and snowy mountains. Just Cause 4 is also the first game in the Just Cause series to move to Avalanche's new Apex game engine to allow for physics-based weather effects such as tornadoes and sandstorms. But what does this mean for Just Cause 4's system specs? Here are the official Just Cause 4 system requirements.

Just Cause 4 Minimum System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 7 64-bit
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-2400 3.1 GHz or AMD FX-6300 3.5 GHz
  • RAM: 8 GB System Memory
  • GPU RAM: 2 GB Video Memory
  • GPU: GeForce GTX 760 or Radeon R9 270
  • DX: DirectX 11
  • HDD: 59 GB Available Hard Drive Space

Just Cause 4 Recommended System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit
  • CPU: Intel Core i7-4770 3.4 GHz or AMD Ryzen 5 1600 3.2 GHz
  • RAM: 16 GB System Memory
  • GPU RAM: 6 GB Video Memory
  • GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 or AMD Radeon RX Vega 56
  • DX: DirectX 12
  • HDD: 59 GB Available Hard Drive Space

Just Cause 4 4K System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit (Fall Creators Update Installed)
  • CPU: Intel Core i7-7700 3.6 GHz or AMD Ryzen 5 1600X 3.6 GHz
  • RAM: 16 GB System Memory
  • GPU RAM: 11 GB Video Memory
  • GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti
  • DX: DirectX 11
  • HDD: TBC

Just Cause 3 was a bit of a nightmare when it came to performance optimisation but we're hopeful a new engine and a fresh start can ensure Just Cause 4 doesn't run into the same issues.

That said, the minimum system requirements for JC4 aren't actually all that different to Just Cause 3. A fairly low-end video card from the last four years or so should do the trick. Avalanche suggests either a GeForce GTX 760 or a Radeon R9 270 with at least 2GB VRAM. This will likely be enough to run Just Cause 4 at low graphics settings at 720p. A low-end CPU could potentially be a bottleneck in JC4 though, so a quad-core processor is required as a minimum.

There is then an absolutely massive jump from the minimum system requirements for Just Cause 4 to the recommended specs for Just Cause 4. A top GeForce GTX 1070 or AMD Radeon RX Vega 56 with at least 6GB video memory is required to play Just Cause 4 at very high graphics settings. Recommended requirements typically refer to 1080p unless specified as well, so anyone hoping to play Just Cause 4 at 4K/Ultra will require one of the fastest graphics cards on the market, such as the GeForce RTX 20 Series.

System requirements for Just Cause 4 also confirm DirectX 12 support. This will require you to have Windows 10 installed. Visually though, JC4 should look identical whether it's running on DX11 or DX12.

And lastly, we have the 4K system requirements for Just Cause 4, which requires nearly the absolute best of the best of PC gaming hardware. Playing at 4K resolution will primarily rely on your GPU, and so a GeForce GTX 1080 Ti or equivalent is required. Any of Nvidia's new RTX 20 Series should be able to handle Just Cause 4 at 4K just fine as well, although a few settings may need to be dialed down on the GeForce RTX 2070. Unfortunately, outside of going the unreliable CrossFire route, AMD doesn't currently have a 4K solution for Just Cause 4.

As ever, remember you can always check out how well your PC can run Just Cause 4 System Requirements here, where you can check benchmarking and performance from other users. Compare your graphics card to Just Cause 4 GPU benchmark chart and we also have a Just Cause 4 Frames Per Second system performance chart for you to check.

1080Ti for 4K60, I assume? 30 would be a disaster.

If so, I'm hoping a 2080Ti could do 4K at 90fps or more, which would be adequate. If not - 1440p native for me :)

Really high end GPU required at just 1080p, i was thinking about the gtx 1060, to play at ultra settings 35-45 fps :)

Thought about the exact same thing... But let's hope for good optimization first.

I hope that a 1080ti is enough for 60fps in 4k.

Is this game even worth it.... After Just Cause 2, everything seems just like more of the same... and I doubt anyone's playing this for its "intriguing story"

they play for its "almost" realistic physics based destruction ..its fun for a few hrs ..thats all

Yeah, I get it - this can go for any game really, you see someone else playing the game through a specific entertaining part of the story, having fun & you say "oh, I have to play this!"... but then when you get it, its actually something else

I've enjoyed Just Cause ever since the second one came out.

I even managed yo play through it twice until JC3 came out.
Where I totally disagree with @Fattman is, that JC3 actually came with plenty of additional abilities and items to use and have fun with.
It's actually rather hard going back to JC2 now (I've actually tried).

Story wise - they have always had sh*t stories, cuz the main things about Just Cause is the spectacular destruction and being a badass!

I enjoyed the fun writing in JC3 a LOT, but the story as a whole was not the selling point whatsoever - it was quite crap. The main thing was the gameplay :D

Any chance I will be able to run this if so at what settings.

I guess 640X480 after changing the config files to disable shadows and stuff. This will give you like 16-20 FPS.
In case, you really wanted to know the performance, then you will max out the game and get more than 100 FPS on 1080p.

To be honest your iPhone 6S will be really holding you back and could be the bottleneck in your system

I now have an iphone 8 plus 64GB but it's not on Game Debates options lol so can't add it.

Less of a bottleneck then. Still garbage tho. You should be thinking iPhone X at the very least if you want to play this game on minimum settings.

I considered the X but not with that awful Notch covering part of the game screen and videos, and photos Apple and a few other manufactures clearly forget that a smartphone is a portable computer used for gaming social media etc.

The fact it makes calls and texts is just an added bonus. So unless they fit the tech under the screen I will have to get a Samsung or Sony phone without the notch. Plus my phone is just as powerful as the x just with a notchless lcd screen

I don't see any problem? The only thing is that they might not be able to use high textures. Remeber this is still a game which also releases on PS4 and xbox one which both only have 8GB RAM in total!

Holy hell, smells like shoddy optimisation!
I know they have included new ganeplay elements that are supposed to be resource extensive, but.....an R5 1600+ 1070/Vega?!?

Just Cause 3 already had performance issues and game breaking patches after release.
This seems to follow the legacy

Just Cause 3 works really good right now. But yeah these requirement may indicate bad performance.

You apparently have different standarts in regards to game performance.

For a game that suddenly required over 8GBs of RAM after a patch otherwise it crashed (so the devs actually put a disclaimer that 8GBs may not be enough, instad of fixing the problems they introduced) is definitely a game that runs 'really good'..

Just Cause 3 still runs like crap for me, so much so that i deleted it. The micro-stutter and unsmoothness is probably the worst, got a headache just playing it.

@Bluej511 - really? I mean, I realize that I had a 1080Ti when I played it, but the game ran at 120+ fps at 1440p maxed out (with AA and all). I'd expect your rig to EASILY pull 60fps locked on that screen of yours (which is considerably less than 1440p).
No micro-stuttering my end, but then again it gets harder to notice with G-Sync AND 120+fps.

Yea it was pretty bad quatrox but then again when you have 15/20 vision you notice EVERYTHING, and thats with freesync enabled, vsync on or off didnt matter still ran like crap. Now that i have 1gbps download speed i can give it a go again at some point but steam servers suck lol. I get maybe 60-70MB/s depending on the game, uplay/origin/battle/rockstar i usually get around 100-110MB/s.

P.S. Also tried Mafia 3 (got in my bundle) and found that M3 ran better then JC3 anytime of the week, then again JC2 ran unbelievably smooth.
