Titanfall 2 developer Respawn Entertainment will have multiple games released by holiday 2018, Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson has told investors.
Wilson addressed investors during a second-quarter earnings call to explain EA’s plans for the next 18 months or so, informing folks about “games from Respawn that are slated to launch by next holiday season.”
So that’s multiple games from Respawn in a single year, a developer that, up until this point, has only release Titanfall and Titanfall 2 around two years apart. Wilson is probably referring to the next fiscal year, which means these both of these games should be launching within a year of April 1st, 2019.
When EA CFO Blake Jorgensen was questioned on the plurality of Wilson’s statement, he replied "Just consider that a little Easter egg left in the earnings call for you. We'll announce more when we get there. But clearly we've got a lot of things working with all of our studios, and you should assume that there will be some things that we haven't announced that come out later in the year when we go to give guidance for next year."
During E3 2018 it was revealed that Respawn was working on Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. We got a title and basically nothing else, so the presumption always was that we’d have a long wait on our hands. However, it’s now looking like that Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will, in fact, be one of Respawn’s games launching in 2019.
And the other game? Well, Respawn does have a VR war sim game in the pipeline, while Titanfall 3 is another obvious choice. It would be fair to say that Titanfall 2 didn’t exactly set the charts alight though. It was a fantastic game in its own right but launching the week after Battlefield 1 was a catastrophic decision from EA.
What would you like to see the talented folks at Respawn working on next?
