The sorry story of Telltale Games has taken another step closer to the grave, this time with the delisting of an array of licensed games on Steam.

The entire The Walking Dead series, Back to the Future, and Tales of Monkey Island have been removed from Steam during the past few hours, and it looks as if more could be following suit.

Telltale Games is in the process of closing down and liquidating its assets, and in doing so the business-end needs to wind down. With there being nowhere for the money to actually go, nor a way for any license fees to be paid, Telltale’s games are subsequently being delisted.

The good news is that Telltale titles you currently own digitally will still be yours. You’ll be able to delete them and redownloaded, them just like any other game. Your time is running out if you want to buy any Telltale games you don’t own already though as more games are sure to follow suit.

This is all part and parcel of our digital future we embraced so readily. Telltale Games isn’t the first and it won’t be the last studio to go under, and more games will disappear into a digital grave. The good news is we’ll still maintain access provided we buy the games before they’re delisted, while the work of certain more, infamous… sorts, means there should still be means to download these games from somewhere long after their creators have given up the ghost. Torrents, basically, and arguably a perfectly valid reason to use them.

this is why boxed versions sold in local stores are still superior to any online distribution service lol

Humble Bundle should do a quick sale then for dirt cheap before all the games are gone from steam store

That game is still going to be finished by Robert Kirkman's Skybound Games studio. You can't buy anything from the page however until they have finished the last two episodes.

Getting these games in the years to come is the most valid reason of them all for torrenting a game. Piracy is not something I advocate, but I don't even see downloading game that can't be obtained through any legitimate source as piracy. It's just another reason that devs should be pushing their own ips instead of licensing these expensive ips that completely restrain their own creativity.

agreed, i don't condone any form of piracy UNLESS! it's the only way to get your hands on that specific product

So this means I'll never get to play all those TG games I had my eye on? Including the last two seasons of TWD. Bummer! Maybe some other company with scoop the licences and save the games from disappearing into oblivion. If it's even possible!

Well,in cases like this piracy(it's not even piracy anymore) is okay. There will be sites from where you can still download the games(torrents for example) and that's not bad because the company making it doesn't even exist anymore.

My piracy days are behind me and I would not want to resort to this kind of practices again. I get what you are saying, and you're probably right in this particular situation. But I would rather watch a complete playthrough on YT. And yes, I know I sound like a righteous prick. Completely unintended! :)

I'd imagine there'll still be unused keys floating around for a while, although the price may drive upwards because they're limited now. Also - gog

Humble still has the games available, at the moment at least. So that may be a great place to purchase during the inevitable winter sale. :)

So The Final Season of The Walking Dead is also gone? Kind of weird, since another studio is going to finish it..

I'd imagine that'll go back up if and when it's finished. The new studio (Skybound) probably doesn't want it selling more copies until it's officially under their name, or that's cash they're not getting.

It should be official, yes. As far as we currently know, Skybound is working on finishing the last two episodes of the season.
