For every up there is a down. For every silver lining there is a thundery cloud waiting behind it. While we love our PC games to be well optimised, there's always a few disappointments. The sort of unoptimised stinkers that hog your PC resources like nobody's business, usually while looking visually average in the processor.
Finding out whether game is well-optimized is easy - head to its game page here on GD and you'll see its GD Optimization Score, as voted for by you. We've also got a dedicated page for all the scores in the link above, and if you ever head to a game page on your travels do remember to vote as it helps immensely with more accurate scores.
All of you have been letting us know throughout the last 12 months whether you think the biggest AAA games are well optimized, or pulling no punches and letting us know if they run like garbage. So here are the 10 most well-optimized PC games of 2018.
|2||Dynasty Warriors 9||2.6|
|3||Kingdom Come: Deliverance||3.6|
|5||H1Z1: King of the Kill||3.7|
|10||Farming Simulator 19||6.2|
There are a few familiar faces in this list, most notably The Forest, H1Z1 and Conan Exiles. All three were in Early Access and officially entered versions 1.0 in 2018. That time in Early Access doesn't seem to have benefitted them a great deal though, with H1Z1, Conan Exiles and The Forest earning poor optimisation scores.
Top of the scrap heap is the newly released Insurgency Sandstorm though. It sounds like it's a great game but unfortunately some shoddy performance. The system requirements for Insurgency 2 definitely warned that high-end hardware would be required but there's still been widespread talk of performance issues. Insurgency Sandstorm just about Dynasty Warriors 9 to the top spot, a game which both runs terribly and is pretty terrible, earning 57% on Metacritic. Perhaps best to give DW9 a wide berth.
And the third spot goes to my personal worst performing game of the year - Kingdom Come: Deliverance. I love what I played of it buy my god did KC:D have a ton of stuttering on my PC. I was using a GTX 980 Ti with an Intel Core i5-4690K plus 12GB RAM and I just could not get a stable frame rate at all. It looks as if a lot of people had similar performance issues in Kingdom Come: Deliverance.
The big oddity in this list if FIFA 19. Whoever downvoted FIFA 19 I would love to hear some reasoning why as from my time it, FIFA 19 runs absolutely fantastically, just as it has for a good few years. There is the chance that those with the minimum spec hardware still didn't enjoy reasonable performance and stable frame rates, which is a fair criticism.
What do you think of this list? Are these some of the worst-optimized games of 2018, or do you think others were just as guilty?
