Fresh gameplay footage has emerged of Rage 2, the new open-world first-person shooter in development at Avalanche Studios and Id Software.
I’m pretty sure Bethesda just keeps showing off the same location, again and again, presumably to keep the rest of Rage 2 shrouded in secrecy. It doesn’t make for the most exciting gameplay footage then, but it does at least give us a better general idea of what we can expect from moment to moment gameplay in Rage 2.
And that is firing guns. Lots of them. Spraying giblety chunks across the wasteland. Movement agility appears to be the order of the day here with Walker, the protagonist, capable of double jumps, air dashes and strafe dodges.
Visually it’s difficult to tell because of the low-resolution footage, although there’s almost certainly a graphical downgrade from the previous footage shown. It does appear as if they could be playing Rage 2 on the Xbox One though, so we’re definitely still hopeful the PC version will look noticeably better.
There are no system requirements available just yet although we do know Rage 2 will be using the same Apex game engine used just recently for Just Cause 4. We’re yet to see how this engine fares for first-person action, although we’re cautiously optimistic thanks to the involvement of Doom developer Id Software.
Rage 2 is coming to PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on May 14th, 2019. It looks almost certain that Rage 2 will be exclusive to the Bethesda store on PC.
