It’s not going to go down as Keyser Söze levels of a surprise but Rockstar Games is hiring once again, and it sounds as if Grand Theft Auto 6 could be on the cards.
Both Rockstar North and Rockstar India are hiring for a range of positions geared towards next-generation projects. Over in India, Rockstar is primarily looking for animators who can help improve character animations and facial tech. They’ve got positions open for Motion Capture Animator, Character Animator, Character Rigger, Facial Animator, Technical Animation and Senior Technical Animator. This being Rockstar the applicant will naturally need “Utmost reliability & commitment to the job.” More specifically, those in these roles will “help research and develop new technology for future titles.”
But what does all this have to do with GTA 6, I hear you cry. Well, Rockstar India is also looking for a Vehicle Artist, one who has “extensive experience in modelling, sculpting and texturing a diverse range of vehicles of all types; including but not limited to Cars, Trucks & Vans, Motorbikes, Helicopters, Planes, Military, and Boats.” The vehicles they’re creating must be original designs that are based on real-world references. Yep, that’s definitely sounding like Grand Theft Auto alright.
These recruitments aren’t just restricted to Rockstar India. There are a whole host of Rockstar studios looking for new staff to help “create next-generation worlds for some exciting upcoming projects."
Really this tells us a few things. Firstly, Red Dead Redemption 2 is probably the last and only new Rockstar game we see on current-gen consoles. Secondly, Rockstar is looking to work towards the specs of the next-gen machines from Sony and Microsoft. This indicates that a number of studios may already be working on games for unannounced consoles, both of which could feasibly be announced this year. The PlayStation 5 is looking the more likely bet due to Sony skipping E3 2019. And finally, that we’re getting a new open-world game with advanced cinematic animations and an array of vehicles that can be driven/piloted. Considering the obscene number of copies GTA 5 has sold, GTA VI seems like an absolute banker for this project.
But now the big question - assuming Grand Theft Auto 6 is real, what do you want it to be? Where do you want it set and do you want Rockstar to lean more into the online elements? Let us know your GTA hopes and fears below!
