We’re deliciously close to the launch of Life is Strange 2’s second episode. It’s been a long old way, some four months since Episode 1, but in Episode 2 it looks as if things are really going to kick up a gear.

Needless to say, if you haven’t had the pleasure of playing Life is Strange 2’s first episode just yet, MASSIVE SPOILER WARNING FOR THIS TRAILER. Even for those of who have played Episode 1, there appears to quite a lot shown of Episode 2 in this footage. You have been warned...

Okay, for those of you left, here it is:

The brothers Daniel and Sean are continuing their slow journey south, this time struggling with the onset of winter and the bitter cold. They both shack up in an old couple’s house for a while, where they meet a neighbouring boy, Chris. This is where we see Life is Strange 2 tie-in to the events The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit, the free game released by Dontnod last year.

Daniel begins to learn how to use his mysterious superpowers under the tuition of Sean. They’re trying to keep a low profile and yet be ready for life on the run at the drop of a hat. Naturally enough, trouble ensues and the boys will once more be on their way.

If the second episode is much like the first though, expect there to be a ton of surprises beyond what’s been shown in the trailer. The first episode of Life is Strange 2 was a solid three hours or so long and hopefully Episode 2 is more of the same.

Life is Strange 2 Episode 2 is out on January 24th for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

I for one certainly wouldn't go that far. It was interesting but some of the events were big letdowns. For example, main event that sets things in motion (don't want to post spoilers). The writing felt weak in parts and the immersion was sometimes broken as they tried hard to inject politics into an otherwise good story. I do hope they manage to get back on track and improve (seems they have been working on this, hence the big delay between Ep1 and Ep2). We'll see soon enough.

It had far more realistic/immersive writing than the first ep of s1 imo and the political element has always been there in LiS it was just more opaque this time. Would be a boring as hell story without the politics lol

Let's agree that the writing is subjective, I personally found the first game to be better, especially in terms of major events which I mentioned above. As for the politics, it just depends on how nuanced they are tbh. It's one thing to have this element intricately implemented in the narrative like in LiS1 or just to shove it in the middle of a story about two kids who are on the run "hurr durr build the wall, send mexicans back". Just felt immersion breaking and out of place.

It's a bit on-the-nose but it absolutely tied into the entirety of the events in episode 1. It's why they were treated like they were, it's why what happened happened, it's why their story is represented a certain way in the news, and it's why certain people don't take too kindly to them. Can't think of many examples of more integrated uses of politics in games tbh
