Cyberpunk 2077’s creative director and narrative & setting director has parted ways with CD Projekt RED and joined Blizzard as a creative director.

Sebastian Stępień’s LinkedIn profile shows he joined Blizzard this very month having been at CDPR for almost 13 years. He helped create the entire The Witcher trilogy during his time there, and also spent several years working on Cyberpunk 2077.

On the surface, this news has the potential to be disappointing, but there are a couple of silver linings. Firstly, it potentially indicates that the bulk of the narrative work on Cyberpunk 2077 is now complete. That would take us one step closer to Cyberpunk’s launch.

Secondly, this now means Blizzard has some absolutely top writing and creative talent in its roster. A man who had a big role in shipping The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Considering the negative storm brewing around Blizzard these days, that can only be a good thing. At least until Stępień is revealed as creative director of Diablo Immortal.

In all seriousness though, this raises some interesting questings over just what Blizzard could be cooking up behind-the-scenes. Something single-player and/or narrative-focused would surely help appease the fanbase.
