Subnautica: Below Zero has arrived on Steam and Epic Store Early Access and it’s landed with a bang. The standalone expansion set on a new freezing underwater planet has already scooped almost 1000 reviews on Steam, 92% of which are positive. I’d love you to tell you what the players on the Epic Games Store think of Subnautica: Below Zero but, well, there’s no functionality for user reviews. You can either risk a blind purchase or head to a competing storefront for early impressions, it’s your call.
Anyway, enough poking fun because the developer, Unknown Worlds, has revealed the first proper trailer for Subnautica: Below Zero. The expansion draws some obvious inspirations from our own polar ice caps, featuring whale-like creatures, killer shark-seals, and some penguin-y creatures that could almost pass for cute if it wasn’t for the gaping maws they call mouths.
Subnautica: Below Zero is set one year after the events of the original Subnautica. Players are witness to a disaster at an alien research station on Planet 4546B, attempting to scavenge for tools and supplies in an effort to survive in these frigid, deadly oceans.
Early impressions on Steam sound very positive. The story elements are included yet and there are a bunch of missing textures and the like, but the core game is allegedly in a better state than when the original Subnautica first arrived on Steam Early Access.
Subnautica: Below Zero is out now on PC through Steam, Discord and the Epic Games Store.
