Team Cherry has been teasing some Valentine’s Day DLC goodness for Hollow Knight but they’ve been pulling the wool over our eyes this entire time. It wasn’t DLC that was being teased but a brand spanking new Hollow Knight sequel.

Hollow Knight: Silksong promises to be another massive 2D action-adventure with hard-as-nails (ahem…) boss battles, tricky platforming, and Metroidvania adventuring. This time around we’ll be playing as the Hornet though, an acrobatic character who’ll be familiar to fans of the original, and is actually a mid-game boss battle.

“Almost from the very start, Hornet’s adventure was intended to take place in a new land, but as we dove in, it quickly became too large and too unique to stay a DLC, as initially planned,” says Team Cherry. “We do know that makes the wait a little longer, but we think the final, fresh world you’ll get to explore is worth it.”

I thought I’d had my fill of Hollow Knight after spending 30-odd hours with the original, but that’s one heck of a trailer to draw players back in. Hollow Knight: Silksong will feature an entire new kingdom to explore, a suite of new combat moves, proper side-quests with a log, more than 150 new types of enemy, and that fantastic orchestral score you can hear in the trailer. How three folks can put all this together is kind of mind-blowing.

We've no release date to go on just yet, Team Cherry is taking an 'it's done when it's done' approach with Hollow Knight 2. It might be 2019, it might not, but when Silksong does launch it'll be coming to PC and Nintendo Switch.
