It’s been a long time coming but Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night has a release window, and a new gameplay trailer to boot! The side-scrolling 2.5D action RPG is from Castlevania creator Koji Igarashi. You and I know it as a Metroidvania, but Igarashi has dubbed the genre ‘Igavania’ in a truly admirable display of self-admiration. He’s probably earned the right, to be fair.
Anyway, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is coming to PC and consoles in Summer 2019 and it’s come on in leaps and bounds since last we saw it. Igarashi definitely isn’t content to sit back and make just another Castlevania; there’s a ton going on here that we haven’t seen from a lot of games before, including greater environmental interaction, 2.5D action, crafting and more.
If you’re pining for a Bloodstained fix right now then Inti Creates did put out an 8-bit inspired prequel-of-sorts last year. Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon is a much simpler game from but it got some great reviews so it’s certainly worth checking out, whether on PC or console.
