Long the domain of beardy wizards, Age of Wonders: Planetfall takes the long-running strategy series in a trip to the stars and beyond. It's a radical revamp for the turn-based strategy series and one that 4X fans are keenly looking forward. Paradox Interactive has now revealed an August 6th release date for AoW: Planetfall, which is quite a bit further away than we were expecting.

Along with the news we also got a new story trailer and our first look at Age of Wonders: Planetfall's PC system specs.

Age of Wonders: Planetfall Recommended System Requirements

As far as the Age of Wonders series goes, we're set for a massive leap in system requirements for Planetfall compared to Age of Wonders 3. Triumph Studios has been beavering away on AoW: Planetfall for five long years so you can you can expect plenty of major visual improvements.

To that end, the specs for Planetfall are actually quite meaty for a 4X strategy game. The minimum requirements are forgiving but to meet the recommended system requirements for Age of Wonders: Planetfall you'll need a solid mid-range rig.

We'll begin down at the low-end then, where Triumph suggest you'll need a quad-core processor together with a low-end 1GB DX11 video card. There shouldn't be too much of an issue with most PC gamers meeting these specs, although quad-core may be an issue for some.

If you're looking up all the graphics settings and having Age of Wonders: Planetfall looking its finest though, you'll need a modern quad-core CPU with a decent 3.5GHz+ clock speed, 8GB RAM and a mid-range graphics card such as the GeForce GTX 1060 3GB or Radeon RX 570. Performance of the GTX 1050 Ti isn't actually too far off this so it should also be perfectly possible on the lower-end card. Frame rates aren't overly important in a TBS so as long as you can achieve a steady 30fps minimum Planetfall will be perfectly playable.
