It’s been painfully quiet for a couple of years now, but Microsoft has at long last teased the news we’ve all been waiting for - Age of Empires will be the centerpiece of next month’s Inside Xbox showcase.
The official Age of Empires website has been updated to celebrate the first birthday of Age of Empires: Definitive Edition. How time flies, it feels like only yesterday that Age of Empires was 22 years old.
Microsoft used the occasion to confirmed Update 8 for Age of Empires: Definitive Edition is on the way, as well as confirming Age of Empires will be featuring in some exciting announces in a couple of weeks’ time.
"Age of Empires will have a segment on Inside Xbox in March! Make sure to tune in here when we go live, because we're going to have some very exciting announcements!" said Microsoft.
Now, Definitive Edition fans may beg to differ, but news on further patches for that game hardly constitutes an “exciting announcement”. Far from it, in fact. Which can only lead us down one path…. Is it time for our first proper look at Age of Empires 4? We know Relic has been working on AoE4 for at least two years, it’s surely time we heard something about it?
Of course, I could be totally wrong and all we’re actually getting is an Xbox port of Age of Empires: Definitive Edition, complete with mouse and keyboard support. Words literally cannot express how disappointing this would be though, particularly after Microsoft has poured some coal into the hype train.
