Chris Avellone, legendary designer and writer of games including Fallout: New Vegas, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II, Planescape: Torment, and more, has confirmed he’s the lead writer on Respawn’s upcoming Star Wars - Jedi: The Fallen Order.
Avellone was asked by a fan on Twitter which games he’s currently writing for besides Dying Light 2, and he replied “I can't say 100% b/c of NDAs, but the ones I can say: I just finished up work with Jedi: The Fallen Order - and beyond that, there's another big bomb dropping in a month! Er, I mean, maybe. Ahem.”
Confirmation then that Respawn Entertainment has brought in some top tier writing talent for Jedi: Fallen Order, a game which is set to be unveiled during the annual Star Wars Celebration event in April. Avellone worked on story content, story/character design and cinematic scripts for Star Wars Jedi.
Avellone’s pedigree shines through in the work he’s done both as a designer and writer over the years, with recent highlights including Divinity: Original Sin 2, Prey, Pathfinder: Kingmaker, Pillars of Eternity, and, the champion of all - Alpha Protocol. He’s a man that obviously knows his way around a story, with RPG and action-RPG being his chief areas of focus. Now we don’t want to get ahead of ourselves considering EA’s dreadful handling of the license but are the stars aligning, could finally get a fantastic Star Wars game?
I have to say as well, I’m itching to know what the other game is he’s working on. There’s going to be some big announcement in about a month’s time. That tallies up pretty nicely with the expected reveal of Call of Duty 2019, although that seems a little left of field for Avellone. Answers on a postcard please if you can think what it could possibly be!
The countdown’s now on to Star Wars Celebration, which takes place from April 11-15 and features a special panel of April 13th dedicated to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
