UPDATE: More credence has been lent to the Assassin's Creek Viking-themed game after notorious inside scooper Jason Schreier confirmed as much over on Kotaku.

Schreier claims the next Assassin's Creed game absolutely is Viking-themed and that Ubisoft intends to launch the next mainline title in 2020. Ubisoft announced last year that it intended to skip a year for the series in an attempt  to prevent oversaturating the series.

The upcoming AC is currently codenamed Assassin's Creed: Kingdom and will star Vikings and, presumably, plenty of goodies related to the Norse mythos. It'll surely be a much more historically inclined take on the era than the likes of God of War though, which should help Kingdoms stand out somewhat.

Aside from this, details on the AC: Kingdom are scarce in the extreme. A reveal at E3 2019 seems pretty unlikely because of this; Ubisoft would do well to keep it under wraps until next year's event.

In addition, Schreier also confirmed the other rumours that Watch Dogs 3 is coming and that it's set in London. This game is looking nailed on to be Ubisoft's holiday 2019 title and will surely be the headline reveal when Ubi's E3 conference takes place in June.

Original Story: 05-Apr-2019 - The Division 2 Easter Egg Hints at Viking Assassin's Creed

We’re delving deep into speculative territory here but an Easter Egg poster found in Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 has hinted at a future location for the Assassin’s Creed series.

The poster in question features what is being alluded to as Norse god, although I’m really not sure which one (Heimdall, perhaps?), holding an Apple of Eden and a giant spear of some sort, together with the heading ‘Valhalla’.

It’s tenuous, for sure, but Ubisoft has a habit for dropping these Easter Eggs for future titles in its games so they’ve certainly got past form here. Just about every Assassin’s Creed game has been teased in other games in some way, so it wouldn’t be surprising if Ubisoft is at least considering a Norse setting.

Previous leaks have pointed toward the next Assassin’s Creed game being set in Ancient Rome, and in truth, we don’t expect this to change. Ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome present a neat and tidy trilogy of mythologies that Ubisoft is surely going to pursue first.

Instead, if there is any meaning to this poster, it’s probably hinting at the Assassin’s Creed game that’s coming after the next mainline outing. There were plenty of rumours that Ubisoft may be heading down this route before AC: Origins was unveiled, with it suggested the publisher may have changed direction once God of War was announced.

Northern Europe and the Vikings would definitely be a great fit for Assasin’s Creed though. They’re all big seafaring nations and there’s plenty of scope for some brutal battles.

What do you reckon then, can you see Assassin’s Creed featuring Vikings next? Let us know below!
