While we’ve all been busy getting hyped, bamboozled, and disappointed by No Man’s Sky in recent years, an altogether more tailored sci-fi experience has been gearing up for release. Starpoint Gemini 3 is an open-world space action single-player RPG, and the first new Starpoint Gemini game in more than five years. Developer Little Green Men Games has just revealed the first gameplay trailer for Starpoint Gemini 3, showing off some impressive spacefaring action.
Set 30 years after the events of Starpoint Gemini 2, in SG3, the universe has undergone great change. The Empire is no more and the A’Shriari have been pacified. The universe is at peace. Sort of. There are a number of uneasy truces at play here, and the alien races, while withdrawn, still have an interest in annihilating humanity.
Stepping into the moon boots of Jonathan Bold, he’s a young spaceship pilot with a whiff of Han Solo to his roguishness. He’s in it for himself, the universe be damned, scooting around the universe raking in the big bucks, enjoying some female company, and generally having a good time. Naturally, it doesn’t sound as if it’s going to take too long before Bold’s life unravels and he comes up against an interstellar menace.
Little Green Men Games are promising an adventure spanning three different planetary systems in Starpoint Gemini 3. Players will be able to hop out of their ship and explore seedy bars, take on contracts, and dogfight in the depths of space.
There’ll be tailored questlines, factions to join, and a fully modular ship upgrading system. Planets will have interiors to explore, although it looks as if the majority of the action is going to take place weaving between asteroids and gunning down pirates.
Starpoint Gemini 3 is coming to PC and Xbox One later in 2019.
