It’s not often we get something genuinely fresh looking the world of racing games, but newly-announced all-terrain racer Overpass certainly has us sitting up and taking notice. It’s from Zordix Racing, who’ve been plugging away on mid-budget racers like Snow Moto Racing Freedom for some time, while Bigben Interactive is handling publishing duties.

In Overpass, players take control of off-road buggies and quad bikes and crawl up scree slopes, traverse steep inclines, and navigate tricky obstacles while managing acceleration, differentials, and drivetrain. It promises to be a far more technical affair than we’re used to from racers, looking like a mash-up of Spintires, Trials, and Motorstorm.

Overpass will feature a number of officially licensed vehicles from the likes of Yamaha, Arctic Cat, and Suzuki, as well as 40 technically demanding tracks, a full career mode, and both online and split-screen multiplayer modes.

Zordix doesn’t exactly have a proven track record yet, if you’ll pardon the pun, although Overpass certainly does enough to stand apart from the crowds of identikit racers doing the rounds. It’s all going to come down to the feel of the game though, and whether the studio can strike the right balance between frustration and mastery that could make Overpass a satisfying experience.

Overpass is coming to PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch in October 2019.
