Up For Debate - Have you bought a game from the Epic Games Store?

System Requirements Optimum 1080p PC Build Low vs Ultra Screenshots GPU Performance Chart CPU List That Meet System Requirements GPU List That Meet System Requirements

We’re about six months into the lifespan of the Epic Games Store now and Epic has gradually been building up a robust library of exclusives, primarily timed exclusives. They’re the headline reason why you’d buy anything from the store because, well, it’s inarguably worse than the competition as a storefront in almost every regard.

The only conceivable benefit to the Epic Store right now, aside from the exclusives, is, potentially, its more curated library of titles. Steam is the Wild West, a place where almost anything and everything can be released. Valve has its limit, and that limit is basically any game that’s less offensive than one where you go about raping people for fun. As I said, almost any game.

The Epic Store, by comparison, has just a few dozen games, each supposedly hand-picked. Epic CEO Tim Sweeney infamous said, “We’ll turn down crappy games that are submitted to the Epic Store.” With just a few dozen games on their store, how RollerCoaster Tycoon Adventures crept by their stringent curation remains a matter of mystery so great that it potentially form the foundation for Making a Murderer: Season 3. I think Atari did, they look guilty as hell.

But enough nitpicking, because it’s these exclusive games which Epic believes will drive people to its storefront. Currently, the EGS is the only place you can buy PC copies of Shakedown Hawaii, Metro Exodus, Hades, Close to the Sun, World War Z, Satisfactory, Operencia, RollerCoaster Tycoon World, and Dangerous Driving. It’s also got pseudo-exclusivity on Ubisoft titles such as Anno 1800 and The Division 2, as well as a formidable upcoming line-up of The Sinking City, Borderlands 3, Control, Phoenix Point, Detroit: Become Human, Industries of Titan, The Outer Worlds, Outer Wilds, Rebel Galaxy Outlaw, and more.

Whether any of those are a compulsive reason for you to use the Epic Store is a matter of some internal debate. Those with a degree of patience will no doubt be happy waiting the 90 days / 6 months / 1 year or whatever timed exclusivity it may be before some of these games come to Steam. Patience is a tough virtue to master though, and plenty of folks won’t care one jot where a game is available, they just want to play it when it comes out.

So, six months later, have you buckled to the allure of the Epic Games Store yet? Have you bought any games from the EGS, or do you plan to pick up one of the future titles? Have your say in the poll and let us know why below!

Have you bought any games from the Epic Store?

Do you plan to buy any of the upcoming timed exclusives from the EGS?

Well.. I caved and bought Metro: Exodus while it was on sale. I was planning on playing it soon, so I pulled the trigger... I am able to bypass the Epic Games Launcher, however, by adding it to Steam as a non-Steam game, then setting the launch options for the .exe with a line that essentially tells MetroExodus.exe to not launch Epic Games Launcher. Of course I'll have to use it every once in a while to update it or if/when I get the DLC to install that, but for now, it's one less launcher running, at least.

Don't ever plan to buy or support the Epic Store. My first introduction to them was with the exclusive and removal from Steam of Metro Exodus. Outer World was next, and at that point they joined my no buy list. If they had just opened up a good store that would have been good competition with Steam, I would have given them a look in a year to see how they held up.

I don't get it why are you so angry about this store, it's good for us - gamers, that Steam has his rival.

I've just bought Beyond: Two Souls for 10 euros (!!! dream !!!) and Detroit: Become Human for 30 euros in their sale!!!

It's not good for us. Epic isn't encouraging it customers to come over with a well built store with special features, good customer service, or anything really that benefits customers. It's forcing costumers to buy from them because they're buying up exclusives left and right. They're taking choice right out of it, and they're doing it with lies and money.

lower prices thats all which should be important but people want some features idk which exactly and i dont get it from this list made by someone who obviously hate epic https://i.imgur.com/SynNfar.jpg
in my opinion important are cloud saves, friends list, offline play, refunds and thats about it everything else is unessesery or there are better programs for those needs.
poor Hanzmeister got downvoted for no reason just for asking a question and instead of people having discusion about opinions like none existant people they are just hating everything that is different from theyr opinion just like normal peoples do.
i am not on theyr side i am on no ones side as i am pirate, i am just bored of hearing peoples hate which is fine but their reasons for hate are just stupid

There's plenty of legitimate reasons to hate Epic Games Store. Just get on YouTube and watch a couple of videos. Buying exclusives and lying to customers are just a couple of examples of legitimate reason to hate the store. I think at this point a lot of people are just sick and tired of rehashing points that have been over and over again. If you don't know why people are mad at Epic do some research.

That list is flawed, stupid and biased, but it's still is a interesting observation. People seek convenience and Steam provides that convenience within it's own ecosystem. There definitely are programs which are more suited and provide finer control over certain features, but for people who're not willing to bother with that or just generally don't seek anything in such detail Steam is amazing as it gives people the basics of what they could need.

Even if we say that prices should be the only thing that matters, which in my personal opinion is just stupid, Epic brought exclusivity and therefore there is no price competition between it, Steam and other stores. They've not given us that either. Even some of the barebones features you have mentioned are still lacking on the Epic Store after 6 months since it's launch.

Also don't get me wrong. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and you are too, I respect your view but I thoroughly disagree. As you mentioned you're a pirate therefore you're probably not that used to all the functionality Steam provides because it serves zero purpose to you if you pirate a title, therefore I don't think your opinion has that much weight behind it compared to someone who uses Steam and it's features on the daily basis.

RogueRequest i am lazy person so far all i found about epic lies are about refunds and stuff around fortnite.

TheEmperor96 i agree that epic store is not even close to steam and that it misses base features, taking exclusives and same but what those stores are for, games right then what stops a players to just play the game, i mean like why people dosnt want to get metro exodus from theyr store for example, is it becouse they want to earn achivments, trading card or maybe they want to read/write reviews, is that enouth for people to simple refuse to play game.
So i am pirate but i am firstly i am gamer i guess you are too so our main reason of playing the games is to enjoy them right?
then why does feature of the store matter when you play the game
i am pirate bec i wouldnt be able to afford games at speed i finish them like 60$ every 2 days(which is usuall time it takes me for average game if not less)which is to much and i didnt sayed that i pirate them all for example from 15 games i play in a month atleast one is legit that i payed for so i do use steam but still i use none of the features it has just becouse i launched steam to play the game, not becouse i wanted to to chat with people, not bec i wanted to read reviews, just simple play nothing else, thats the reason why i am trying to understand this whole hate

@David988
I like to hold myself to some principles. There's no game to me personally that is a must play title and I've learned over time to temper my hype and expectations around the fact that I have a very limited amount of money to burn on games. Therefore I tend to value good games as much as I value certain business practices companies are pulling and their overall treatment of us as consumers.

Even though I'm just a single person I want to encourage companies that are properly treating their consumers over just my selfish desire to play every game I can because that's how you give them a go ahead on all the sht everyone's been pulling lately. Even though on a global scale my, so to say, boycott doesn't fcking matter to them and I'm maybe better off just playing what I want to play I just wouldn't feel personally that true to myself.

At the end of the day anyone can have any reason to boycott Epic Store regardless of how mundane it is which can be enough for them to refuse to play a certain game. And I believe that there are many valid reasons people have around Epic Store that's enough to refuse to use that platform until things change. With Epic, to me it's not about the store but how they approach and market that store that I genuinely don't like nor appreciate and that's to me enough of a reason.

@David988 I asked because it puts your comments about piracy and games being too expensive into perspective. In the U.S. we are fortunate enough that there really is no too poor to buy games.

What good did Epic bring to us users exactly? They gave the developers lower margins which is great! Steam needs to get on that and everyone else in the industry needs to follow, but that's not helping us consumers in any way.
Everything they've done so far is bring exclusivity to the platform that is feature wise far below what should be the acceptable in my mind. The only literal pull of that platform so far is that games on it you can't find anywhere else. That's no good.

When I first heard about the Epic Games store I thought it would be the kick that Valve needs to get Steam under control. Instead it's an anti-consumer mess that's only doing so well because they're throwing around lots of money that's gonna run out someday. Meanwhile it's only shown Steam's true colors, because they haven't done a thing to prove why customers should spend with them either. It's just a lot of bad news for the consumers, the whole lot of it.

I hadn't heard about that. I love Corsair as a company. Corsair has the best customer service that I've ever experience. One time I mentioned in my review for a keyboard on Amazon that I broke a corner off it on accident, the replaced it. I bought a case from them and some hardware was missing, they sent me a new one and told me donate the old one to a high school or something.

nope , i'm not even going for their freebies and have permanently deleted my account a long time ago . if i want a game i buy it from steam and get the extra platforme features with it or from gog to support their DRM-free mentality , if i wanted a featureless game with DRM on top of it i'd rather get the game from the piratebay and then pay for it lnce it hit steam or gog and replay it again to get the achievements and join the community hubs

Has anyone heard of the hilarious calamity their Epic Game Sale has turned out to be ? With SuperGiant Games (Hades) and Borderlands 3 and Vampire Masquerade: Bloodlines 2 being removed etc ?

And Epic Games / SuperGiant raising prices before discounts and other such questionable practices

I've read about that. It either wasn't well communicated or they had some serious disagreements. But can't say that's exclusive to the Epic Store. That kind of stuff happened on Steam and pretty much every platform a few times before.

epic didnt tell devs or publishers about the sale so they didnt get a say epic just did what epic wants and doesnt care so that pissed off the publishers and devs and some of them didnt want there game being devauled so much especially the games you know.. not even out yet hence why they pulled them off the store or lifted base price so i can see why they did it

where for steam sales the publishers get to say what the sales are and how much hence for example even the origional cod on steam its never over 50% off cause activision says no to any lower cause for some reason they think there garbage barely ever loses value where some titles from publishers like paradox or thq ( saints row series) are regulary discounted at 75% during such sales

Most of their ''exclusive'' games were/are already available on Steam/Uplay or are just easily skippable.
Borderlands 3 will probably be the first ''huge AAA must-buy exclusive'' so I wonder how that will go.
