Patrice Désilets’ Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey has become the latest game to fall prey to the temptations of the Epic Games Store. The Assassin’s Creed creative director’s ambitious open-world survival game will be coming exclusively to the Epic Games Store on August 27th, 2019.
Console versions of Ancestors will arrive in December 2019, before the game finally arrives on Steam in 2020.
If this is the first time you’ve encounter Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey, it looks like a very odd experience indeed. It’s set during the earliest stages of human evolution, covering the transition from ape to man.
“Our goal for Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey is to provide an experience no player has ever lived before,” says Désilets in a new video series which explores Ancestors’ various gameplay aspects. “Our small team is creating an ambitious and immersive game with a unique setting that will captivate gamers of all types, and we look forward to players exploring our world later this year.”
There’s still a cloud of mystery around this project but the concept is certainly intriguing enough. It bears a few roguelike elements to its open-world survival as well. As players due, skills learned are gradually passed down to later generations, building up a base of human knowledge over the course of thousands of in-game years.
Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey comes to PC on August 27th.
