It’s actually happening. Divinity: Original Sin 2 developer Larian Studios has updated its website with a mysterious teaser for a presumably imminent game announcement. When you overhaul your website 10 days before E3, it’s safe to say a few assumptions are made.

Larian’s teaser logo quite clearly shows a three, which we naively assumed at first would surely refer to Divinity: Original Sin 3. How wrong we were. Twitter user @Kunkenn rather industriously downloaded the teaser video from Larian’s site, opened it in a text editor, and found several references to Baldur’s Gate 3 and Wizards of the Coast tucked away inside. Woah boy.

The video file has since been reuploaded and all references to Baldur’s Gate removed but the Boo is out the bag now, so to speak.

It’s been almost 19 years since Baldur’s Gate II released and the D&D RPG series is still regarded as one of, it not the, greatest RPG series on PC. Larian Studios are the team behind the supremely excellent Divinity: Original Sin series, including the 94% rated D:OS2. Baldur’s Gate 3 and Larian are, quite simply, a match made in heaven.

It was only about six months ago when rumours emerged that Larian Studios could be working on Baldur’s Gate 3. CRPG legend Brian Fargo fanned the flames while Larian flat-out denied that it was working on anything Baldur’s Gate related. You naughty little fibbers, you.

All eyes are now on E3 2019, which seems as good a time as any to officially announce a return for one of the most beloved RPG franchises of all time.
