Fable 4 lives! Fable Legends may have bitten the dust a few years back but the franchise lives on according to a new leak. The first details of Fable IV emerged via a brief trailer that has since been pulled down.

Sadly, no one seems to have grabbed the Fable IV footage before it got pulled but it allegedly showed a snippet of what appeared to be a meteor hitting Albion, along with a brief bit of character customisation.

Fortunately, the trailer was joined by a few interesting tidbits of information. First of all - Albion and Aurora are gone. Wipe away those tears, chicken chaser. A mad king wished for a pair of asteroids to blow the planet to smithereens, and it sounds as if he got his wish. The first hit, wiping out Albion, and now, many years later, a second asteroid is inbound to destroy the planet all over again.

There are multiple different planets and continents to explore in Fable 4, as well as the ability to manipulate time itself. We don’t know what the heck is happening but Fable 4 seems to have gone all Borderlands 3 on us.

In terms of the theme - Fable IV will once again have a faux-medieval setting. Guns are out; it’s back to basics with melee weapons, bows, etc. F4 will be playable in both 1st and 3rd person, features a character creator, some form of multiplayer, and a completely open format where players are free to do what they want, when they want. There is some form of main quest to complete, although players are free to ignore this and explore the world at their own pace. The story ties into players reconstructing towns, Dark Cloud-style, with multiple different endings depending on your decisions.

Lastly, Fable IV is being developed in Unreal Engine 4. It’s the same engine used for the ill-fated Fable Legends, so that makes sense.

Rumours so far have pointed towards Forza Horizon developer Playground Games heading up development on Fable 4. With Microsoft’s Xbox E3 press conference right around the corner, we’ll surely see more on Fable 4 soon.

As long as the final boss isn't a button prompt to push 'em off a building, I'll give it a look.

Sounds like they're making a bethesda-style RPG and I hope they do well. Its about time Bethesda had some competition on that front.

He's the original creator of the series. You may remember him as the guy who essentially promised the world for Fable 1 & 2 and never really gave us half of what he promised. He left after 3 I think and is now doing his own studio and makes indie games.

squeals YAAAAS! I love Fable. I love 1, 2,&3 (ok maybe not 3), but I'm so happy this franchise didn't die. Hopefully MS will realize what the fans want this time and give us a solid Fable entry.

I wouldn't bother with Fable 3 imo, but Fable 2 was fun.

The ending of Fable 2 is a MASSIVE disappointment. And I don't mean the story. The gameplay for the final boss is atrocious.

When you play 1 - you'll see a a rapid decline in game quality (especially for PC) in the subsequent games. 3 was a disaster...

Fable 2 was one of the best games ever for me. Iam happy a new one comes out but I hope it will go in the classic direction again.

I am both excited but also cautious about this, even since fable 2 the series has had problems no matter what kind of game it was. I do hope that it'll work out better without Peter but you never know. I really do hope they kept some of the good things from the previous games such as weapons that evolve and change through use and what you do, combining magic spells and of course stories. But als bring back some of the old stuff, armour that actually has stats and worth and choices that matter.

I personally have had enough of generic open worlds, but fable is great, games with great open world I can always be excited for.

Open world games have become what linear games were back in the day, they found a generic, mediocre formula and put in every game, a big open world, with small objective hubs and a baren wasteland for the rest of the map with some NPCs on it, no flow, no progression, no nothing, open world of the sake of the open world and wasting time. Just like generic linear games were corridor after corridor with enemies or events along the way.

There are great open worlds and then there are the generic ones. Most AAA open world games post 2014 have generic open worlds. Most AAA linear games before the boom of the open world games had generic linear, corridor-like worlds, nowadays if the games is going to be linear they make sure it has great level design.

not yet but i heard that its basicly a copy of origins which i did played so i assume that it is empty and when i say empty i dont mean wasteland without trees, mountains, rivers and such what i do mean is there is noting to be done in this big open areas except moving around on them

That's completely wrong. I own both Origins and Odyssey and even tho the graphics and gameplay seems really similar I must admit that Odyssey is way better in every aspect

Me too I haven't played Odyssey yet either and I too don't mean a literal wasteland when I say a wasteland, I mean that it's just empty environment, with some NPCs thrown in here and there outside of the usual "objective hubs", be it cities, ruins, camps, caves, some special places, etc, etc.

I'm playing AC:O and if I find the quest/side-quests engaging then I'm happy to travel the longer distances and admire the views, however if I do a couple of quests in a row that I'm not connecting with then I become impatient and wish there were a faster way to travel. Which is the same for any open worlds I play.

Ammmm... Both AC Odyssey and AC Origins are "AC:O", so elaborate please XD

And if you feel like you want to fast travel then the open world is done wrong... simple as that, open worlds that are well structured, have good flow and progress make you enjoy the travel, either it's short and quick or you have something of importance and is actually meaningful and quality to do on your way or are like older AC games where traveling between cities/islands/villages was quick so basically every location was like a self-contained level.

I don't think travelling between the objectives of a few odd quests that feel like they are taking too long means an entire open world is done wrong, if it was for the majority or all of the quests then I agree with you.
