Fable 4 lives! Fable Legends may have bitten the dust a few years back but the franchise lives on according to a new leak. The first details of Fable IV emerged via a brief trailer that has since been pulled down.
Sadly, no one seems to have grabbed the Fable IV footage before it got pulled but it allegedly showed a snippet of what appeared to be a meteor hitting Albion, along with a brief bit of character customisation.
Fortunately, the trailer was joined by a few interesting tidbits of information. First of all - Albion and Aurora are gone. Wipe away those tears, chicken chaser. A mad king wished for a pair of asteroids to blow the planet to smithereens, and it sounds as if he got his wish. The first hit, wiping out Albion, and now, many years later, a second asteroid is inbound to destroy the planet all over again.
There are multiple different planets and continents to explore in Fable 4, as well as the ability to manipulate time itself. We don’t know what the heck is happening but Fable 4 seems to have gone all Borderlands 3 on us.
In terms of the theme - Fable IV will once again have a faux-medieval setting. Guns are out; it’s back to basics with melee weapons, bows, etc. F4 will be playable in both 1st and 3rd person, features a character creator, some form of multiplayer, and a completely open format where players are free to do what they want, when they want. There is some form of main quest to complete, although players are free to ignore this and explore the world at their own pace. The story ties into players reconstructing towns, Dark Cloud-style, with multiple different endings depending on your decisions.
Lastly, Fable IV is being developed in Unreal Engine 4. It’s the same engine used for the ill-fated Fable Legends, so that makes sense.
Rumours so far have pointed towards Forza Horizon developer Playground Games heading up development on Fable 4. With Microsoft’s Xbox E3 press conference right around the corner, we’ll surely see more on Fable 4 soon.
