It's been 18 long years but Shenmue is almost back. Shenmue 3 broke Kickstarter records when it was revealed in 2015, and since then we've seen Yu Suzuki and the team at Ys Net have been cooking up an experience that's very true to the franchise's roots. Unfortunately for some, Shenmue III is now a confirmed Epic Games Store exclusive. If that doesn't put you off though, then here are the system requirements needed to run Shenmue 3.

Shenmue 3 Minimum System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 7 64-bit
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-4460 3.2 GHz or AMD FX-8350 4.0 GHz
  • RAM: 4 GB System Memory
  • GPU RAM: 1 GB Video Memory
  • GPU: GeForce GTX 650 Ti or Radeon R7 260
  • DX: DirectX 11
  • HDD: 100 GB Available Hard Drive Space

Shenmue 3 Recommended System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit
  • CPU: Intel Core i7-7700 3.6 GHz or AMD Ryzen 5 2500X 3.6 GHz
  • RAM: 16 GB System Memory
  • GPU RAM: 8 GB Video Memory
  • GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 or AMD Radeon RX Vega 56
  • DX: DirectX 11
  • HDD: 100 GB Available Hard Drive Space

As my grandma used to say, ahhh that's a lovely spread. Shenmue III's PC system specs run the full gamut from bottom-rung graphics card at the minimum all the way up to a fine specimen of a gaming PC for the recommended specs. It doesn't exactly look like a game which is pushing Unreal Engine 4 to its absolute limits but you wouldn't kick it out of bed either.

The latest episode of Ryo Hazuki's notoriously slow-paced adventure likely won't benefit much from high frame rates. As long you can achieve a locked 30 frames per second in Shenmue 3 you should have a satisfactory gameplay experience. You'll need to meet at least the minimum specs to achieve this though, which means a 1GB VRAM DirectX 11 graphics card paired with a reasonable quad-core processor. The one main thing to keep an eye out for is that incredible 100GB installation size. It might be time to start making room.

Should you want Shenmue 3 looking its graphical best then you'll be needing a considerably faster PC. Ys Net hasn't specified which resolution the recommended specs are targeting but we have to assume it's either 1080p or 1440p with all the graphical bells and whistles turned on.

Playing Shenmue 3 on Ultra will require an 8GB graphics card, a high-end quad-core CPU, and a chunky 16GB VRAM. This is a high-end system so Shenmue 3 could end up quite a demanding game.

As ever, remember you can always check out how well your PC can run Shenmue 3 System Requirements here, where you can check benchmarking and performance from other users. Compare your graphics card to Shenmue 3 GPU benchmark chart and we also have a Shenmue 3 Frames Per Second system performance chart for you to check.

Why does a game that looks like that needs 100GB of storage?

Should stop with this "VRAM" requirement. It's not specified anywhere officially and 8GB is obviously not true.

Yeah I agree. The GPU is usually more than enough and if it's really a necessity you can mention it in that section.

GTX 1070 is currently the recommended GPU and it has 8GB VRAM so that's the default.

While it isn't directly stated officially, both cards 1070 and Vega56 feature 8GB of RAM. So from that we can conclude 8GB is recommended. And since 650Ti is 1GB, we can again conclude, 1GB of VRAM is about minimum. Plus both of those really fail to state what is targeted performance anyway, so those are just as useful as VRAM thing. So recommended could be anywhere, 1080p or 4k at 30-144FPS.

The game looked like crap in the E3 conference, something like a gtx 1050 should be able to max this game out at 60 fps 1080p, probably even 1440p xD.

Feels bit like either recommended requirements are overshooting, or minimum requirements are too optimistic. Either that or it will have one hell of a setting list. Also looks like they heard backlash, since they want to think about exclusivity again when they come back home from E3. That or someone found legal grounds to sue them or cause some problems for them. :-D

That's early? Usually requirements don't release more then a year before the release. Hopefully they use this year to optimise it.

What kind of requirements are these? What the hell did they make?

i think the "chunky 16gb VRAM"" should be "chunky 16gb RAM" cause if i remember correctly vram is for graphic cards right, which shenmue only require 8gb for that on ultra?
