Hello GD'ers! Remember we have been going on about the huge GTA 5 blowout coming this month? Well, now we're bringing it you. GD is going to give you an in-depth walk-through of the most interesting and juicy information released.

So grab whatever it is that you eat and drink and get ready to feast your eyes on everything GTA 5...

Before that, lets get a little insight on the upcoming game. Grand Theft Auto 5 is followup to Metacritic's most decorated game, Grand Theft Auto IV. Everything from the settings to the characters have been changed where you now control multiple characters in the city of Los Angeles. Due out in Spring of 2013, this is the first time Rockstar is revealing detailed information on it's next blockbuster - GTA 5. Now that aside, lets get busy:

- Grand Theft Auto 5 "evolves nearly every mechanic" found in previous games in the series. Rest assured, this will be huge!

- Features the biggest open-world in the series' history - GTA 5's world is bigger than the worlds of Red Dead Redemption, San Andreas and GTA IV - combined. That pretty much clears the air for those who were hesitant regarding GTA 5's world size.

- Three playable characters who you can switch between "at nearly any time". This means rumors about this were true. There aren't two but three main characters.

- Each character has their own specific abilities and story arc, with all three stories intertwined. Kind of what Rockstar did with GTA IV by releasing two DLCs only this time, they made it all in one game.

- Camera zooms out to a "Google Earth-style" perspective when switching characters; switching to another character at the right time helps avoiding flat spots in between missions so you will be at '"heart of the action."

- 1st Character: Michael, an ex-bank robber in his early 40s made a deal with FIB and is now retired. He hates his wife Amanda and never quite understands his two teenage children, "with the money running out and his domestic life driving him crazy, Michael needs to get back in the game."

- 2nd Character: Trevor, a career criminal also in his early 40s. A former military pilot, he is a long-time friend of Michael's. When it comes heists, "you don't need to twist his arm to get him on board."

- 3rd Character: Franklin, the younger of the three in his mid 20s. He is a repo man working for a car dealership who sells cars to people who can't afford them. He "stumbles into Michael when looking for a hustle."

- Each of the three characters will have unique hobbies, with "one or two mini-game activities per character."

- Certain familiar characters from GTA IV and Episodes of Liberty City will make an appearance. Don't expect mainline character Niko Bellic, though.

- No characters from the PS2 era will make an appearance, though. Rockstar's Dan Houser said, "The five PS2 games are one universe, and this is the high definition universe, so they don't co-exist." He continued. "You wouldn't never see CJ or Tommy Vercetti. They would be like mythical characters in this world who never existed."

- Rockstar is known to bring in big actors to voice for GTA characters but not this time. GTA 5's main characters wont be voiced by any major actors.

- Rockstar has decided on making GTA 5's mission design more varied and diverse. If you are expecting a GTA IV-like mission structure, you'll be in for a surprise.

- To elaborate on "varied and diverse", you will find "more sophisticate" mini-games like yoga, triathlons, Jet Skiing, base-jumping, tennis and golf, on a true golf course, which Dan says is "pretty fun." If that's not enough, you have scuba diving along the coastline of Los Santos or gym on the seafront.

- Houser says, the missions will have a "very different tone depending on who's on them, how many people are on them, and how much we're using switches."

- There are lot of hidden missions dotted around the game world. For example, "going off-road in the desert, you may come across two parked cars and a sea of dead bodies around them.... Investigate if you want."

- When you're not controlling them, they will go about minding and doing their own thing. "You may be surprised by the situations they find themselves in should you switch back to check up on them," said GI.

- Mobile phones makes a return from GTA IV but this time around it wont be as much of a use since lot of features have been removed from it. Dan says, "A lot of it was hidden on the phone, so we've taken a lot of that and moved it onto the map."

- Gyms and Romance-feature don't make a comeback. But a more detailed and varied clothing line will keep gamers more than happy.

- Property buying is also removed. The "vibrant and fun" economy will keep the players very much invested. "We're doing lots of new stuff," said Dan.

- If Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas was about gang culture, Grand Theft Auto 5 is about capturing the "contemporary culture of LA."

- The world will feel real and all the pedestrians are mo-capped so expect a lot of interactions with them. You can also rappel down buildings, but whether it will be specific to a mission(s) is not known yet.

- You can also bring down buildings while on a rampage but again, we don't know if this is confined only for a mission(s) or not.

- The RAGE engine is again, the power behind GTA 5. Being heavily modified from the days of GTA IV, they have made advances in "lighting and shader model" that will give us much more "control and subtlety."

- Transition from gameplay to cutscenes, flowing in and out will be as "seamlessly as possible so everything ties into a single experience."

- GTA 5 will house more vehicles than any GTA game to date. From BMXs, Mountain bikes, Road bikes, Dirt bikes to Cars, Trucks, Helicopters, Planes, ATVs and Jet Skis, everything is at your disposal. All of their manufacturers are still fictional, though.

- Driving physics has been improved. "The cars hold on to the ground a bit better, " said Dan who continued," It feels more like a racing game." GTA 5 will give you a feel of high-level racing game in a "way it hasn't been in previous GTAs."

- Shooting mechanics is what Rockstar has given extra attention and detail to. They have evolved from game-upon-game and now it will define GTA 5 "not just in terms of how it works, bit also in terms of the core mechanics of how you play the game."

- Melee combat is also better but "it's never going to be as big a deal as shooting," said Dan. It will, however, be "really fun and strong."

- Los Angeles "brings players the largest open-world playground in Rockstar history with a huge and diverse city serving as a epicenter."

- GTA 5 will have lots of expansive environment that include beach-fronts, wine-country, a large wilderness area surrounding a fully explorable Mt. Chiliad, a Salton Sea region, a military base, ans of course the sprawling sub-urban hills leading up to the bustling urban center of Los Santos.

- Apart from the main characters, you will have a number of key characters to interact with such as Franklin's "crazy friend" Lamar, Michael's son Jimmy, Trevor's best friend Ron and Michael's damsels in distress-type wife Amanda. Dan Houser feels that all of these characters are totally different from the past games, or any game for that matter, and he said that it "feels like GTA, and feels it's like just sort of amusing."

- Rockstar says that they will leave the Multiplayer side of things for another time. "We're very pleased with the direction it's heading. We're ever closer to nailing the fun and excitement of open-world multiplayer," said Dan.

So there you have it! Did our coverage excite you? If not, then just scroll down to read the Special Issue yourself. Tell us what has got you most excited or what hasn't. We here at GD love a debate so start one and others will end it for you.

Stay tuned for the upcoming #2 Trailer of the game that will be unveiled November 14th. You can rest assured we will have it here on GD, as fast as possible.  Till then why dont you watch the debut trailer again:

Please, if you're posting stuff like that about Skyrim, I'd appreciate a nice Spoiler Alert. I did not know about a talking animal :( (I still don't know which kind of animal it is). I'm getting there, but I'm just slow at playing games because I try to enjoy them as much as possible :3

Sorry about that. But that isnt even relevant to the story whatsoever. They even showed a trailer where 'it' talked. Strange you never saw that... And nearly everyone here has played Skyrim with 100+ hours. Anyway..

Yep, I've racked up a good 750 hours on it. ;) I wouldn't exactly call it a spoiler either...saying that's a spoiler would be like saying it's a spoiler to say that Star Wars takes place in outer space haha

After reading the stuff, I have a few niggling questions and comments:
1. "You wouldn't never see CJ or Tommy Vercetti. They would be like mythical characters in this world who never existed.": Why? Those were the guys that made Rockstar a hit to begin with. At lease they could have mentioned these guys. That would mean that there would be no Claude (GTA 3) as well.
2. No Major actors for Voicing: While it is good to bring out new people, it's the more seasoned veterans that bring out the attitute. Still, this could be interesting.
3. Mobile Phones and Gyms: The romance bit is good riddance! (Hated that feature as the girls were often annoying). Gym, is a 50/50 thing with me. Limited Cellphone? They want a generational game and don't want to use a generational feature? They have got to be kidding...
4. No Multiplayer? Good! Keep multiplayer out.
That is all...

  1. Maybe they are doing it that way because of possible story holes (stuff that happened in SA that may not have a feature in GTA V). The game will be set in a different universe (like what Marvel does with its comics). I'm guessing that they will change a lot of things in the map (locations, etc), too.
    3. Why would the give the phone more importance in the game? The game does not revolve around the use of the phone.

  1. It's understandable; Rockstar believes that each GTA is like its own game, disconnected from the others.
    2. I don't really have a stance on this issue. ;)
    3. GTA IV's cell phone system was irritating, since you couldn't use it effectively while driving or in a fight of sorts. I hope they fixed that issue.
    4. Agreed! Multiplayer in games like this is what's really killing gaming as a whole imo; I could go on a looong rant about why but I'd think that's a bit out of place here. :)
Either way, this game will probably be just as good as any of the others.

Thanks for the elaboration guys!
About the Voicing-Acting part, well, they are testing things. Rockstar is known for using Major guys guys to voice their iconic characters and a large part of it goes to them but, there a other 'non-major' guys who can give performances on par or at times, even better! There are many examples for this if you look around at major games' voice overs. The most famous personality who isn't a major star but is one of the best voice-overs in Gaming Industry - Mr Nolan North. A great guy who has so many games to his credit I wouldnt even start listing them.
I for one would be satisfied if the protagonists & antagonists show the emotions that lures me into the story and totally keeps me attached, major talent or not ;)
Thanks for reading!
And as for the MP, who said anything about there not being a mutilpalyer feature? Rockstar refrained from talking about in now because want to an Announcement of it's own. So you can understand how seriously Rockstar is about MP in GTA V. And you never know, it could turn out to be great! :) I for one Im anxious to know.
Thanks for the read!

Unfortunately, what GTA IV turned out to be made me skeptic about GTA V.
This is what I like:
-Huge open world
-Three playable characters
-There will be underwater diving again
-I will be able to fly planes again
-I will be able to destroy buildings
However, this is what I don't like:
-Probably no Las Venturas
-Can't buy houses
-No gyms
-No word on jetpack or car customization
-"You wouldn't never see CJ or Tommy Vercetti. They would be like mythical characters in this world who never existed." That means Rockstar isn't very proud of GTA III or San Andreas because, oh, they weren't realistic!
Also, I don't quite understand what "a more detailed and varied clothing line will keep gamers more than happy" means. Does that mean I will be able to customize the characters' clothes? If it does, that would be great!

Hello! Thanks for reading and giving your opinions. You have questions as well, I like that ;)
Firstly, "Underwater diving again"? You mean SA. Well, yes, you could dive but do what? Here, Im pretty sure they've included things(missions?) to make it worthwhile.
Secondly, Las Venturas was there just to you know... be there. It absolutely was unnecessary, IMO. They could have very well concluded it in LS. Not that I didnt like Las Venturas, It's just that I wouldnt miss it.
Thirdly, Rockstar has been explaining from a long time, Games upto San Andreas were from a different era or universe, if you may. In their vision, these characters arent present in this(console) generation. Actually makes sense.
Fourthly (damn these numbers :p), Yes, customizing clothes is what I meant. It's confirmed! :D
Enjoy!

OK thanks.
1. In San Andreas, I liked diving and looking for interesting stuff. I hated Rockstar for removing that from GTA IV.
2. Yeah, if you think that way, they could have stripped San Andreas of all "unnecessary" features before it got released. That way they wouldn't set the bar so high that even 7 years later they can't outmatch it.
3. It does make sense. One generation of consoles, one universe.
4. Great!
One more question. Which world is bigger, San Andreas or Red Dead Redemption?

1] Alright. Well at least I didn't find it that interesting since there was nothing you could do with it. But thats just me and opinions differ. Hope V gives everything you want.
2] "Unnecessary"? I hear ya ;) "Outmatch"? Have you played Red Dead Redemption? A 'Rockstar' game that demolishes SA left, right and centre. In context of a true open-world mind you. In GTAs world, I can see your disappointment with IV so I'm not even gonna start :)
3] Yea, that's it.
4] :)
5] Yes! It's more than double the size of SA. Only second to JC2 :)
Flutter: "other games"? Which games are you talking(& comparing) about? :)

The game's requirements aren't out yet, so no one can tell you how well your rig may perform with it.
But, if you want to be prepared, think of it as a max payne 3 combined with L.A. noire.
That should give you an idea of what you may need to play the game.

0

02:56 Nov-12-2012

that depends on what's good frames for you
for me, good frames range from 30 to 50 fps
optimal frames (still, for me) are 40 fps, but I'm not angry or sad if a game runs at 30 steady fps
so, yeah, decreasing the field of view does the trick in most cases :D

I won't lie; I have no idea, since the game's official requirements are more than unknown. What I can tell you is that you have a decent Rig, and you will most likely be able to play it on High as you think, I doubt it will run maxed. I would keep your native resolution and game on whatever settings you can handle in it :D

I'm vey excited for the game, but not very excited for that we don't have any info about PC. I think we can expect some dlc, because the game is going to be very enormous with many features as I see...
