BioWare has just revealed that they will use DICE's Frostbite 2 Engine for their next Mass Effect game.

The franchise widely regarded as one of the best gaming trilogies ever made, it's developers - BioWare, are looking for new prospects...

EA, the owner of BioWare, is one of the few publishers that have access to some of the best Game Engines in the industry. EA's own studios DICE and Crytek house 2 phenomenal engines in Frostbite 2 and Cry Engine 3, with the former lending it's technology to neighbour developers whereas Crytek likes to keep the CryEngine 3 to itself. EA though can relish in the fact whether their games may fare good in departments like story-telling, sound etc, they are assured to get the best looking games on the market. A high point for many gamers in this age.

Yanick, Studio Director at BioWare Montreal, said in an official blog:

"There is really not much I can tell you about the game right now, except that it will be built with the amazing technology of Frostbite as its foundation, enhanced by many of the systems that the Dragon Age III team has already spent a lot of time building."

"The other thing I can tell you is that, while it will be very respectful of the heritage built over the course of the first three games, with the original trilogy now concluded and the switch over to a new engine, we are exploring new conditions, both on the game-play and story fronts. You can still expect the pillars the franchise is known for to be fully intact though, including diverse alien races, a huge galaxy to explore, and of course rich, cinematic storytelling."

While Mass Effect was built on a heavily modified version of the legendary Unreal Engine 3 engine, the guys at BioWare think the Frostbite is the way to go for the future. They aren't unknown to the DICE-made engine however, their other half of the team is already in works making an anticipated Dragon Age III game on that very engine. They are well acquainted. And if you thought ME3 looked fantastic, which it did, expect ME4 to be way more stellar.

Casey Hudson, Executive Producer on Mass Effect franchise has turned to fans for things they are expecting from Mass Effect 4,

"We're in early stages of designing a completely new Mass Effect game. What would you want to see in it?"

GD is curious too. What is it, aside from giving proper ending(s), would you like BioWare to adopt in the next ME game?

Speaking of preposterous endings, Mass Effect 3 left a sour taste in many fans of the franchise. The game never gave an apt end to the choices you made throughout the journey. Despite that, the game was hugely successful both critically and commercially. GD gave it a score of 8 and in the reviewer's words, "you wont regret it."

Since then, the developer has released loads of single-player and multi-player DLC for ME3 to support it's fans and they have been very good at that. All of their post-release contents are interesting to experience and fun to play. DLCs such as 'From Ashes', 'Resurgence', 'Rebellion', 'Earth', 'Firefight', 'Leviathan' and 'Retaliation' have been we;; received from the fans. The forth coming DLC called Omega looks to just as interesting.

Omega is a single-player content focusing on aiding Aria T'Loak and Nyreen Kandros in reclaiming Omega from Cerberus. Your choices will affect the outcome, like always. BioWare has released new screenshots of the DLC and they make the wait worthwhile. You can check out all the screenshots in our Gallery.

Omega is due out on November 27, 2012.

Apart from that, EA announced Mass Effect Trilogy, which released on November 6th for the Xbox 360 and PC and a December 4th launch window for the Playstation 3. A re-release of all three games in a new premium foil box and it looks sweet. Hardcore fans rushed to get their hands on it and that could happen even more when the PS3 bundle becomes available.

As for the Wii U, Mass Effect 3 is one of the launch titles for the Next-Gen Console and it sure looks every bit like it's counterparts which is a good thing. They released a Special Edition Trailer of the game that is going to grace the Wii U owners.  It is due out on November 13th.

So, excited to see Mass Effect 4 on Frostbite? Nah, silly question. Are you anticipating the game? Looking forward to playing Omega? Let us know with your comments below!

Using Frostbite 2 engine would be great but there is one problem with that. People with low specs computer no longer enjoy Mass Effect with smooth FPS. Game specs getting high day by day, but GFX card price still the same. Hurmm...

It's kinda balancing, since newer GFX coming out, older ones dropping in prices. But I do agree, Mass Effect series have not been demanding whatsoever, so people who are accustomed to such thing will be concerned this time around

mass effect 1 was an RPG, 2 had less RPG elements, 3 was a third person shooter with an okay story and horrible ending and 4 im sure will be the same as 3

I disagree. In my opinion, 2 was the best.
2 and 3 had more RPG elements I think in terms of choices and freedom.

I think using the Frostbite engine will be a wonderful addition to the already-stellar series, but Bioware must make sure they retain the same ambience and feel of the game without compromising the graphics.Another thing not to mention,is that they MUST optimize the game well.ME3 ran well on much older rigs and i was able to ultra it even on my weak rig. That will ensure that they will be able to reach out to a wider community.

I don't have high hopes from this one given that the previous one's ending was crippled, if ME4 has the same protagonist, then I will be disappointed :/ Let's see how things turn out to be :)

I greatly enjoyed the ME series. Loved every bit of it, even the unpopular ending of ME3.
So whatever ME4 will be, I'm almost certain it won't let gamers down. I rarely pre-purchase games (so far only Oblivion and Skyrim) but I will certainly pre-purchase this one as soon as I'm able :)
