The first post-launch update is inbound for Control and it sounds as if it’s good news for those of you with performance issues. The patch is out right now on Playstation 4 and will be coming to PC and Xbox One shortly.

“Since launch, Remedy have been listening to community feedback and working flat out behind the scenes on Control,” said Antonela Pounder, senior brand community manager at publisher 505 Games. “As many of you will know, bug fixing and submission times vary across each platform, which is why we’re not out on all formats yet! All being well, we won’t keep you waiting very long.”

Those of you with the base consoles are probably most in need of the update. The PS4 and Xbox One versions can drop into frame rates in the 10s during certain scenes. Some of the physics-intense events such as launching items can also cause hitching on the PS4 Pro and, to a lesser extent, the Xbox One. With any luck, this patch should at least iron over a few of those issues and make them more bearable. Early reports suggest it's done exactly that, although it's still not perfect.

Control fortunately fares a lot better on PC, although you still need a hefty rig to get it looking its finest with all those ray-tracing effects. This first update for Control should improve the general frame-rate performance of Control on PC, as well as reduce DX11 and DX12-related crashes to desktop. Once the update is live on  PC we'll be sure to give it a download to see if there's any noticeable change.

If you've yet to pick up Control, Jon gave it a 9/10 in his Control review over the weekend and claimed it is probably Remedy's greatest work. "Not only is Control comfortably the best Remedy game since Max Payne 2, it may well be the best Remedy game ever. It helps as well that it's astonishingly beautiful, both on technically and artistically; from top to bottom, beginning to end, Control is a feast for the sense. Tantalisingly, the very concept of folklore and urban myths being believe into existence is a truly rich template from which this franchise can build. It’s rare to finish a game and already find myself lusting after a sequel."
