There has been a lot of buzz around the GTA 5 screenshots and the GTA V Trailer, which was released last week. Unfortunately we have only heard GTA V to be confirmed for console release in Spring 2013.
Now things are starting to look even more shaky for the PC GTA V release...
When Dan Houser, from Rockstar, was pressed by IGN recently about a PC release he was somewhat non-committal in his response.
Basically a PC version is "only up for consideration. That’s all I can give you. The main thing is we are not… we are a third-party publisher. We’re not Nintendo, we’re not Sony, we’re not Microsoft. We love all of them in different ways. But we can do what we want wherever there’s the appropriate business opportunity and chance to find a market."
Yow! Thats a tough line to tow Dan.
You know, I am going to put my neck on the line myself here and say, every gamer in the world wants to have the choice of playing GTA V. Some people just cant switch platforms easily and GTA is often a gaming landmark. Your fans have supported you since the rocky days when the original Grand Theft Auto made its way into our lives on the PC and was facing a lot of negative media coverage due to its wanton love of death. Now we hope you understand when giving the PC platform your "consideration" you at least think about your heritage too.
And how about the aging console hardware?
GTA V is nearly finished. If at this point Rockstar conceded that they had just built GTA V for aging hardware only then they may well be doing their development efforts a disservice.
Dan Houser again "Some other people talk about the limitations of the [current] hardware. We don’t feel there are that many limitations. We feel we can do some very impressive stuff and do it for a large audience. This felt like the way… There’ll be a much larger audience on PS3 than there will be on PS4.”
So basically the jury is out as to whether GTA V will reach PC in Spring. Things are not looking favourable. However, this has happened before. It took GTA IV 8 months to reach PC after its console release in April 2008.
Vent and shout below and cross your fingers that Rockstar will listen.
