Games are big business. They can get oodles of advertising with massive marketing budgets to spread the word and get us gamers all juiced up and ready to buy. They normally want us to pre-order their games way before anyone has managed to tell us that they are actually trash or buggy, so they can bank a chunk of money before the game is even released.
So that got me thinking, I often get aboard the hype train and find myself hovering my finger over the buy this right now button. Only to stop at the last minute, realising I dont really want to play a techno boyfriend simulator that lets me ride goats around a VR amusement park, while strumming a plastic toy guitar...or whatever it is that is the latest craze. Actually that does sound quite fun and its NOW ONLY 4.5 of your hard earned currency tokens!!! BUY BUY BUY.
Another culprit of this is the Kickstarter fad. Where someone would put a tonne of effort into setting up a kickstarter campaign to lure us into thinking we could have our most desireably dream turn to reality if we just chucked a few buckeroons their way.
Me? Well I did it with Playstation VR that came bundled with Skyrim VR at a crazy good price, during a Black Friday deal. I played it twice. Sure its great I suppose, but I dont really care for it. And I dropped a tonne of cash on the whole set up despite believing it was a bargain bargain BARGAIN!
Now let me put this to you my GD fellows, its confessions time and hopefully it will make us all feel a little better knowing we're not alone in our hype stupidity. What have you ever bought because its marketing was too tempting, only to think afterwards, ahh crap...I didnt want that.

The last game I bought on hype was No Man's Sky. That hype mainly came from my closest friend. He was so excited. We were going to play together and all that jazz. Then the game was released, and our expectations were utterly dumb founded. He's bought a couple games through hype since, where I haven't bought into hype since.

You have more self-control then most.

I've done some hype purchases on tech, not games, and it wasn't a complete let down, but I maybe wanted a little more performance.

I bought watch dogs preorder, what a waste of money!

Age of wonders 3, which wasn't really worth it, but I enjoyed AoW: Shadow Magic sooo much when it was released that I wanted to support the studio/series
PC Specs
i dont see why would something other like mean that i will like it as well, clear examples for me would be dead stranding, rdr2, borderlands 3 and cp2077 at the top of hype train while all thos looks fine or potenitonally fun for me personally, none of them interest me at all even tho they all had enormoys hype, i was and i am hyped for few games (dmc5, doom eternal, Warcraft 3: Reforged) but hype got from games it self not becouse of other people

I am currently considering succumbing to the Cyberpunk hype and preordering. If i did it for RDR2, well, CDPR deserve it more than Rockstar.

I preordered FIFA 17 & WWE 2K17 until now...both good games, but I did learn my lesson from this years to not get hyped before the game launch, I don't think I ever will preorder a game in the future, maybe only if they make a Conflict Global Storm/Terror remaster or something way to good to blow my mind :)

the only way you will enjoy that game is with a bunch of mates in co-op need to get from point to A to point B lets have a race with differnt vehicles, lets do a mission in stealth only with silenced handguns. those bits are epic

Witcher 3. First game i ever pre-ordered (physical copy). Other one would be Dark souls III.
PC Specs
I got on that bandwagon waaaaay late. I am currently enjoying Witcher 3 immensely.
PC Specs
Witcher 3 is still enjoying me for hours, days and months. I really love this game!
PC Specs
Rise of the Tomb Raider and Mafia III. RotTR was amazing. Mafia III was mediocre and the peformance was garbage.

GTA 5 for PC. Game was good and ran good. But i had no one to play it with. Very little people i knew had good enough pc's and never played GTA before.
Then i did it with No man's Sky, big mistake though i did spend 30 hours on it when it came out. I just liked how it played but only for those hours.
After that it was either just after launch or a few weeks to a month after the launch. Though there are some games coming up that ill likely buy instantly.
